By Contributor: Ananya

In the ever elusive search for the perfect serum for my sensitive skin, I have found only a few products that I gush over and am absolutely in love with. Vichy Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Hydration Serum fits the bill perfectly. I have been using the Vichy skin care product for more than 2 weeks now and I naturally gravitate towards it leaving everything else, I have been using of late, aside. Let’s start with the review.

Vichy Claims: Powerful 48-hour hydration in a lightweight serum suitable for all skin types, including combination. Ultra-light texture softens and deeply comforts skin all day, without stickiness or oiliness. Our moisturizing serum goes one step further in understanding skin dehydration. Beyond replenishing water loss, the reinvented Power Serum evenly distributes water to balance dry skin, target dry patches, and plump dehydration lines. Skin appears more luminous over time, giving the complexion a healthy glow. Oil-free. Non-comedogenic. Non-acnegenic. Allergy-tested. Suitable for sensitive skin. Tested under dermatological control.

My Review of Vichy Serum:

For this water based, perfumed serum, a little goes a long way. I have found that pumping it only once is enough for my face. I sometimes use it as a night time cream after cleansing my face. During the day, I use the dynamic hydration serum in conjunction with another product be it a sunscreen or a BB cream. It’s perfectly allowable and actually recommended to be used with other products. The first time I used it, my skin did look much brighter and visibly softer. Though for younger skins, some hydrating serums do work well but this one in particular (as I have read) actually works quite well with somewhat older skins with problems like dryness and fine lines.

The vichy serum has a milky, lightweight texture and leaves a layer of moisture over the skin. A little in to the background of its constituents; Hyaluronic Acid can hold 1000 times its weight in water and is a potent hydrant. Also the Aquabioryl is actually known as Fucogel and is a complex plant carbohydrate that is obtained through a bio-technological process. Fucogel protects the skin by forming a layer on it and prevents loss of water through evaporation. It also protects the skin from oiliness. This shows that the aqualia serum does work as a perfect base for make up as it does not stick or feel slippery, and is quickly absorbed into the skin and forms a refreshing and protective covering. It is suitable for sensitive skin as well even though it has a strong fragrance. I use it under my BB cream or powder compact and it works very well by controlling oil and keeping the skin hydrated. It also works well during long hours in an air conditioned environment and quite frankly, I am sticking to it for a long time.

This vichy thermal serum has turned out quite perfect for the summertime and I can’t wait to try it during the winter months. If it works well, it’s a perfect all year round serum and you don’t have to switch to something thicker during the winter months.

The price is a bit on the steeper side for a quantity of 30 ml but it gets negated by the fact that a little amount goes a long way and you can work with a single bottle for a pretty long time. But then again, if it does not suit you from season to season, you might just have to preserve it for the correct season. The main problem is you might by then have moved over to a different product altogether.

Packaging: The vichy thermal serum comes in a pretty blue glass bottle with a pump and a transparent cap. It can be carried in your hand bag or can fit in to your travel kit easily.

Fragrance: It has a mild and refreshing, somewhat aquatic fragrance that instantly works towards uplifting your mood. I was a bit skeptical wondering if it would lead to break outs on prolonged usage due to the perfume and the fact that my skin is pretty sensitive, but so far I haven’t had any break-outs or comedones.

Conclusion: Overall a great product with a great packaging that’s both attractive and prevents spillage or wastage. Its travel friendly and fits snugly in your handbag. Leaves the skin hydrated, looking radiant and controls oil. If you have specific dryness and dehydrated skin related issues, it’s definitely worth an investment. You can use it in conjunction with your regular moisturiser or make-up base and it comes with a decent shelf life.
