Tutorial: How To Perfect Ombre Gradient Lips in 4 Steps!

Two Tone Ombre Lip Tutori al Step by Step with Red and Orange

By Contributor: Shruti

Everybody is going gaga over ombre or two-toned makeup, nails, hair and outfits. Ombre is a gradual colour transition from light to dark or vice versa creating a gradient effect. Personally, I love ombre lips be it dark and mysterious or fun and playful or bold and sexy. If you are bold, you can experiment with bright neon colors such as orange and pink, otherwise you can play safe with the colors of same family. I did an ombre lip look on Halloween’s last year using red and black, but that was quite dramatic and so not wearable. Today I’ll be doing a not so bold but pretty and wearable ombre lip tutorial using a red and orange lipstick.

Things you will require:

  • Concealer/ foundation/ bb or cc cream. I’ve used ponds bb cream.
  • 2 different lipsticks. I’ve used a red and an orange lipstick – Colorbar Obsessed Orange and Colorbar Hot Hot Hot
  • A lip brush to blend.

Step 1. Using your fingers, dab on some concealer/ foundation/ bb or cc cream onto your lips and blend it well. This will fill in the lines and cover lip pigmentation so the color of the lipstick can pop out.

Step 2. Apply a bright orange lipstick all over your lips leaving the corners. You can use a lip brush for a more precise application and to enhance the cupid’s bow. I’ve used colorbar velvet matte lipstick in obsessed orange.

Step 3. Apply a bright blue based red lipstick on the corner of your lips leaving a little space between both the shades. Try to be proportional so that both the corners match. I’ve used colorbar velvet matte lipstick in hot hot hot.

Step  4. Using a lip brush, blend both the lipsticks so that it looks as if the color is slowly changing and getting deeper.

Tip – the darker shade should always be applied on the corner of the lips.

Don’t we all just love the two tone effect. And its so wearable

Keep the rest of the makeup light and minimalist as the lips are going to take the center stage. Apply a winged eye liner and loads of mascara and you are ready for your shopping trip with your girlfriends.  You are sure to turn heads and break hearts.
