Face Highlighting Makeup Tutorial

By Contributor: Mahima

So I’ve already done a contouring tutorial in which I demonstrated how to make your face looked chiseled and with contouring comes HIGHLIGHTING. I decided to do a separate tutorial for both as I wanted to explain each step in detail. What is highlighting and why do we do it ? Well in makeup sculpting, we highlight all those areas of the face that we want to bring forward or make more prominent, highlighting goes hand in hand with contouring. Contouring makes the shaded portions receding while highlighting brings the parts which are not shaded forward.

Like if you want your nose to look slimmer, highlight the bridge of your nose this will attract light to that area making it look slimmer. The same theory goes for the cheekbones, highlight them to make them look higher and sexy!

Makeup Products for Face Highlighting: Powder, Cream, Liquid or All?

Now comes the confusion, which products should you use? So basically you can use either cream or liquid or powder highlighters, and you can use them together as well, yeah really! Like if you want a subtle highlight go for just powder like the MAC MSF in SOFT AND GENTLE or if you want a dramatic highlight then use a cream or liquid first like the MAC cream color base in PEARL or the INGLOT illuminator and then set it with a highlighting powder. You can also highlight under your eyes by using a lighter concealer over your actual concealer this just lifts the whole eye up, all you gotta do is just pat a lighter concealer under your eyes with your ring finger.

So lets get started with how to highlight the face up without looking like disco ball!

Step 1: So to highlight the cheekbones and the browbone make a C shape as demonstrated, this will make your face look glowy, slim and will give you that Kim Kardashian look. Start just below the center of your eyes, take it to the corner of eyes, then move towards the brow bone and go till the arch of your eyebrow.

Step 2: Now if you want your nose to look a bit slimmer then just go and highlight the bridge of your nose, this will draw attention to the highlighted part making it look slimmer.

Step 3: Got small lips ? Well I got small lips and I like my lips to look a bit fuller, so for that I like to highlight my cupids bow, this makes your upper lip look fuller and pouty and if you want your lower lip to look fuller then just put a bit of lipgloss at the center of your lip.

And its done. This is how it looks after I’m done highlighting my full face.

Highlighting is easy, isn’t it ? But it makes a huge difference. I personally used MAC MSF in SOFT AND GENTLE but you can also use a beige less shimmery eye shadow

or a cream color base. And one more thing have you ever wondered why your makeup is looking so flat and dull ? That’s just because you haven’t highlighted the face up, so go and get your products and glow like a proooo!
