NYX Soft Matte Lipcream San Paulo
By Contributor: Lee
NYX is one brand that offers great quality products at really affordable prices(well lets ignore their prices in India). One of my first purchases from them was their famous lip creams and there has been no looking back ever since. I’m on a mission to collect every single shade well maybe barring the pale ones (Tokyo & London) and today I’m going to review and swatch a gorgeous shade from their ‘Soft Matte Range’ that will flatter most complexions called San Paulo. Oh and yes all the shades in the Soft Matte range are named after cities!
Nyx Claims: Neither lipstick nor lip gloss—this is matte lip cream. A new kind of pout paintthat goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream issurprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing. Available in 11 lip colors.
The first thing you notice is the yummy mouth watering scent of these lip creams. It smells deliciously of warm vanilla and I keep getting this strong urge of licking it every time I apply it. Thankfully the scent subsides after awhile otherwise it’d be a tough task to resist myself from licking my lips!
Shade: San Paulo is a bright rosy-pink that instantly brightens up my face. Its not too bright as it settles into a matte finish and hence can be easily worn during the day time. I think this will suit all complexions and will not wash out medium-dusky skin tones. Before buying this I had read that it is similar to NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in the shade Pinky Nude (which I already owned). However, I strongly disagree. Pinky Nude is a lot more bright and has a cool undertone and they don’t look similar to me at all! (check comparative swatch).
Pigmentation: It is highly pigmented and a single coat gives you an opaque finish. This should easily cover pigmented lips in one coat and those with pigmented lips will absolutely adore this! However, I do find the finish can a get a bit streaky if you layer it up.
Texture & Finish: The lip cream is a hybrid of a lipstick,a gloss and a lip stain. It’s exactly what it claims to be – A Lipcream. It has an air whipped texture which sort of feels like a mousse. Mousse on your lips. Imagine! Feels heavenly!
It is lightweight and feels very comfortable on the lips well that is when my lips are in a healthy state. Since it settles into a matte finish it can be drying if you have dry or chapped lips(like I usually do )It also settles into fine lines due to which it accentuates them quite a bit .However that can be easily rectified by prior exfoliation and applying a lip balm underneath.
Staying Power: The staying power is just fabulous!! It stays on for 4-5 hours including drinks and snacks!! You might need to touch it up after a full meal as it tends to feather. The thing I hate is that it does not fade evenly and gets very patchy requiring an immediate touch up.
Packaging: The NYX Lip Creams are packaged in a standard lip gloss tube with a matte black cap. It has the product description and ingredients mentioned on it. It comes with a doe foot sponge applicator which is of good quality. The lip creams come in an opaque tube which is the same shade as the lip cream color which helps in quick identification.
Top: Nyx Xtreme Lip Cream Pinky Nude, Bottom: Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream San Paulo
Pros:
Cons:
Price: $6 (Rs.750 on Indian Websites and Rs 530 at Sephora, delhi)
Availability: NYX Lip Creams are easily available online in India however they are priced at more than double the original price. Sephora in Delhi also stocks NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams so if you live in Delhi you can pick it up from there.
VNA Rating: 4/5
Final Recommendation: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream San Paulo is a bright rose-pink shade that will flatter all Indian complexions. It is highly pigmented and long staying. Those with dry lips might find it too drying so they will require a lip balm underneath. I absolutely love it and will certainly recommend it!
