We’ve all done it.  You sleep past your alarm and you have five minutes to leave the house.  You throw on some clothes, throw your hair up in a bun, and what do you do next?  You only have time to apply one type of makeup.  What is the one thing that would make the most difference in your appearance?  The answer is not powder, blush or lipstick (although lipstick is a close second).  It’s mascara. To be honest I never knew the importance of mascara that much when I first started wearing makeup. So coming to today’s review and swatches. It’s going to be about Maybelline the Colossal Volume Express Mascara. Read on!

Another point to be noticed here is that, we Indian girls have the advantage of already black lashes. Unlike the whites, who need to wear mascara at all times because of their blonde hair.

My Review:

I love Maybelline products and none of the Maybelline products which I have bought until now have let me down. That’s the reason I bought the Maybelline mascara. I was sure Maybelline wouldn’t let me down this time too and it didn’t. Yess!

The colossal mascara comes in a catchy yellow tube packaging and has 2 variants- the washable one and the waterproof one. It has a thick, dense wand which is characteristic of volumizing mascaras. The bristles are soft and neatly arranged along the length of the wand. Because of the thick wand of the colossal volum mascara, one needs to be careful while coating the inner lashes and lower lashes.

The mascara formula is slightly on the drier side which is good because it doesn’t give wet smudges on the skin but it has its downside. It does not clump. Though if you want to apply more than 1 coat, apply the 2nd coat before the first one dries. I normally apply 2 coats.The pigmentation of this is great. It is jet black. The formula of maybelline colossal express mascara sets pretty fast so you don’t have to wait around for it to dry. It gives a boost of volume  and length to the lashes which I love. And one of the best things about this mascara is that it doesn’t make the lashes stiff or weight them down.

Conclusion: This mascara from Maybelline adds good length and volume to the lashes without clumping. The formula is slightly dry and the wand can be a little too thick for the smaller inner/lower lashes but even with these drawbacks, I think it’s a really good budget volumizing

  44. Texture : The texture of this mascara is thick and sticky. It does not spread that easily. So, for at least one eye you need to use the mascara wand twice. Also, you need to give  a good amount of 5-7 minutes to dry the mascara else it might smudge off here and there.

  84. It looks very natural and thus this one is perfect for day time wear. Also, as I said the formula is a bit thick so you need to be really cautious with the application part. The mascara does not make my lashes hard or stiff unlike most of the waterproof mascaras in India. Also, it does not weigh down my lashes too.
