Maybelline Colorshow Lipstick Orange Icon Review

By Contributor: Mamta

It seems like Maybelline has new launches lined up one after the other, this time it’s the new Color Show lipsticks which they launched in a whopping 27 shades but the only hitch is that there were hardly any neutrals, most of the shades are on the darker side and there are loads of mauves and reds in the range. I am a huge fan of their color sensational lipsticks and have many favorites from that range, so was super excited to try these as well. Today I will swatch and review a beautiful shade named Orange Icon.

Maybelline Claims: Maybelline Color Show Lipstick is a fashionable intense lipstick, which comes in chic to vivid shades. Maybelline Color Show Lipstick is highly pigmented giving bold lips

My Review:

The lipstick comes in a very basic shiny black case with a plastic color coded band in the center to locate the color, and the base also has color coded sticker attached. The packaging is very average but decent for the price we pay. The lipstick has slightly strong fruity fragrance which is quite prominent and many may not like it, but fades soon after application.

The color orange icon looks like a bright almost neon orange in the tube, but surprisingly looks more coral on my lips. When swatched the color comes off in a very different way as to how it looks in the bullet. It is actually an orange based coral shade with hints of pink and red in it. It does looks quite different in different angels and under different lights. The color screams summer and instantly brightens up the face. It is undoubtedly going to be the most popular shade in the range. It does not have any spec of shimmer present. It will flatter light to medium skin tones very well.

The lipstick itself is quite soft and creamy and the bullet tends to break very easily and needs to be handled with care. It has slightly glossy finish initially and gives a fuller appearance to lips on application. The texture is very smooth and glides easily. It is quite moisturizing and a lip balm is not required underneath and feels comfortable. But after application it soon starts to settle into the creases on lips and emphasizes dry flakes if any.

The pigmentation for this shade is slightly sheer, two to three swipes are required to get an even finish, and I doubt if it will work for very pigmented lips and cover them completely, layering may help. Due to the glossy finish, it does transfer a bit, but I did not notice any kind of feathering with it. It has a decent staying power of around 3-4 hours after which the lipstick fades but leaves behind a very strong stain on lips which stays for the entire day until removed, which I dislike but it can be a pro for some. Also it does not fade very evenly and fades mainly from the center of lips.

Price: Rs 299

VNA Rating: 3.5/5

Do I recommend?  I love the color, although not a true orange like the name suggests, it is a must have color despite the cons and very easy to wear as well. If you like coral and orange lip colors then do get it!
