Hey you guys! So , just about everyone loved the budget friendly lakme enrich satin range, but i’m pretty sure the packaging was a turn off to a lot of people , and finally! They’ve revamped the range (can we have a little excited shriek break right now?) I will review and swatch the shade Lakme P164 in this post, in addition to the shade p166 that i’ve already done a review on. These Lakme enrich satin lipsticks come in around 80 shades but this new revamped packaging comes in only about 12 shades. Other shades available: P169, P171, P166, P172, P165, P164, P167, P163, P170, P168.      

My Review:

Price : The satin enrich lipsticks retailed at Rs. 230 back in the day,  but the newer version retails at Rs. 260, but i’m guessing given the newer, more appealing packaging, not a lot of people would mind paying topping half a dollar.

Packaging : Ah! The ghastly bulky packaging is finally not going to be re-issued, and they’ve upped their game with a sleeker versi on. The twist up is now a glossy silver, with a clear internally domed cap , with the sheer purpose of making identifying the shade simpler. Hallelujah! The tweaked out lakme logo and the range identifier are imprinted on the side of the cap now.  The one thing they haven’t changed is the imprinted lakme logo on the bullet, which i’m glad about ! All in all, and i’m sure there are no exceptions to opinions on this,  the packaging looks way better .

Fragrance : The revamped enrich satins still have that old chemical based, sweet, citrus scent . It’s quite strong , and to be honest, i’m not a big fan of it. So if you’re scent-sensitive, this will still be a bother.

Formulation : The enrich satin range always was slightly inconsistent with their formulation , and that unfortunately hasn’t changed. Both the shades that i’ll be reviewing (p166 andp164) are formulated differently. P164 is a little drier and has some shimmer incorporated into it, with a creamy finish that has a shimmer overlay and makes the colour slightly more evening-appropriate as opposed to everyday wear.

Shade : The shade P164 is a vibrant orange red, which has a LOT of pink formulated in , and has a warm undertone, which doesn’t look as stark with deeper Indian skin tones. It’s very wearable (again, if you can sport it) , and goes well with lighter and duskier skin tones , so , all in all, tailor-made for india! p164 has shimmer milled into the formula, which isn’t exactly my thing, but it does look very lovely on most people. This colour can look very vibrant if you tend to go overboard with it, but you can tone it down and make it a lot more wearable.

Longevity : The lasting power for this Lakme lipstick line wasn’t really that great, the average 4 hour mark is where it tends to settle into fine lines and fade out into a subtle tint, but with some of the shades that had a very very strong red undertone, once the creamy finish and the vibrant colour is worn out, there is a lovely red tint, that has a very long wear-time. p164 is slightly more on the drier side compared to the other shade i’ve reviewed (p166) , so it doesn’t transfer as much and it doesn’t feather and bleed as much if you go slightly overboard with it either.

What i don’t love about Lakme Enrich Satin Lip Color P164:

• The inconsistency with the formulation in the line.
• This particular shade is very unoriginal, and is the kind of pigment a lot of drugstore brands do just as well, within the same price point.
• The fact that it settles into my fine lines (although, this is not the case with the entire range , so pick your shade wisely, and you’ll leave happy)
• The fact that they upped their price, along with their game.
• They are yet to have shade indicators at the bottom of the twist up. (seriously! come on Lakme’ !)

What i do love about Lakme Enrich Satin Lip Color P164:

• The price is very basic-drugstore , which makes my little gujju heart, VERY happy!
• The packaging . I was never into the enrich satin range, the opaque bulky twist up never appealed to me , but with the sleeker packaging, i will be picking up a few more shades.
• The tint it leaves, it’s not as strong as the one with p166, but it’s still a lovely deep red.

VERDICT? As for this particular Lakme lipstick, if this is your kind of thing, the classic , almost-red slightly shimmery lipstick ,  get it! It is a lovely product . But as for me, i’m not nearly as excited about it , mostly because colouressence has a better alternative for this shade.
