Lakme 9 to 5 Mattifying Super Sunscreen SPF 50: Review and Swatches

Review of Lakme 9 to 5 Mattifying Super Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50

By Contributor: Nausheen

Lets admit it that we all love products which stay put together for hours without touch-up. Specially in the scorching heat when Surya Devta bless us with harsh UVA/B rays regularly 9am-6pm every day. So when Lakme launched their new 9-5 range of Sunscreen I screamed with joy. 9 to 5 tag was like a lottery for me and the cherry on the cake was the Matte effect claim, so I grabbed this sunblock the day it was launched in my town. It is almost a month that I am using this Sunscreen and it is the right time to review this sunscreen.

  • Hypoallergic

Prevent your skin from tanning and sunburns with oil control benefits.

How to use:

  • Pump two dollops on to your fingertips.
  • Apply on your face and neck.
  • Blend gently using upward strokes.

My Review:

The sunscreen is having a bit thick cream like consistency which is easy to work with. It smells nice, is light weight and gets easily absorbed by the skin. During summers my skin loves to ooze oil literally from each and every pore present on my face and believe me ladies no matter how effective a product is to control oil on others- it simply fail to work on my super-oily skin. So when I got this sunscreen I thought- may be just may be this will work on me but nope the Mattifying effect stands true only for 45 minutes or so now a days and after that I have to use blotting sheets to keep my look fresh and presentable too. Although last month when my skin was less oilier it did a decent oil control job but not now a days in scorching North Indian heat.

How I wish, one day some company may come with claims like- Fights oil on your face even at 45 degree Celsius and wont let you down!! Although it leaves a whitish cast post application but that vanishes soon and this sunscreen protects you from tanning, Infact this sunscreen can act as a good makeup base as well. It comes with 50 +++ PA that will protect our delicate skin from harsh and cruel UVA/B rays by keeping our look oil free for at least some time.

Packaging: The product comes in rosy peach opaque plastic packaging secured with a golden screw open cap. The packaging has a pump to dispense the required quantity of product. The packaging is hygienic, sturdy and travel friendly.

Thumbs up for Lakme 9 to 5 Mattifying Super Sunscreen SPF 50:

  • SPF 50+++PA.
  • Easy to work with.
  • Light weight texture, not at all oily.
  • Sturdy hygienic packaging.

Thumbs down for Lakme 9 to 5 Mattifying Super Sunscreen SPF 50:

  • Leaves a whitish cast post application.
  • Tad pricey.
  • A bit thicker in consistency.
  • May not work on scorching hot days.

Price: Rs.500

VNA Rating: 4/5

Conclusion: Lakme 9 to 5 Mattifying Super Sunscreen SPF 50 is a good sunblock, comes with SPF 50+++ PA value and provides a Mattifying effect, worth a try indeed.

  • I am so tired of seeing ads for this sunscreen before every video on youtube :P A white face is a pet peeve of mine. Gonna skip this sunscreen for sure!

  • Was planning to buy this one only because it claims to mattify the skin, but im glad I read your review. Will probably stick to my good old Neutrogena.

  • I prefer the hydrating variant for my combi skin since this has a thicker texture. but I'm sure this will work much better in scorching summer months. Great Review!

  • hey Nausheen didnt u review this same product on peaches and blush on 31st march ? it is really annoying to see two reviews at different places by a same person, especially when people are looking for honest opinions and experiences from different people when they want to genuinely buy a product, dont u think so ?

    • I was wondering about the same thing.... It's quite disturbing to read the review on two different blogs by same person with DIFFERENT OPINIONS!

  • I think I will stick to my Lotus Herbals 3 in 1...don't like that white cast much!
