Illamasqua Apocalips Lipstick Review, Swatches, Look – Socially Acceptable?

What is the one thing that can scare any man in your life? No, its not forgetting the important dates, not long shopping bills either. Nope not PMS. Its the ‘Apocalips’ lipstick by Illamasqua. The other day I was playing around with it and clicking some pictures to put up here when suddenly a cousin screamed “what’s that on your lips!”.
I shot back “lipstick..duh!”
“But its blueee!”
“Teal”.

It Claims: Let your lips speak volumes. Indulge in colour-intense lipstick with a highly pigmented formula, available in a choice of flawless finishes, from creamy matt to iridescent finishes. Illamasqua Lipstick glides on smoothly and doesn’t give up without a fight for the perfect all-night pout. A must have for professional make-up artists, and those who want to make a statement.

Illamasqua Apocalips Lipstick

The colour: Apocalips is a blue based teal. Yes TEAL. Now don’t OMG me! I know this isn’t your everyday pink or brown and you can’t wear this everyday. It’s more of a fun color. I’m wearing this everyday in my house doing crazy looks and photo sessions, in the privacy of my home ofcourse! I dream of wearing this on Halloween. I dream of a bold fuchsia eye makeup to color-block it. I dream of pink hair extensions to go with it. Oh I dream a lot about this colour…that’s it..I just dream. But practically yes I cannot wear this out. See a lot of girls can’t carry red lips in public and there are some who live in their red lipsticks. The same way a lot of us can’t think of wearing this out in public but to the daring girls its another shade in their vanity which they totally love to rock. It’s all about confidence and taking makeup as an art and not just a ritual.

The finish is matte and it is richly pigmented. The lipstick is stiff and dry so expect some pulling, you have to apply a little pressure to get an even colour on your lips. And you NEED to exfoliate and moisturize your lips before wearing it since it goes dry on application. But once on lips it doesn’t feel drying any more and lasts for about 5-6 hours and leaves behind a rich stain…ofcourse! And since its totally matte, its transfer and kiss proof (though I’m not sure if a guy would like to kiss you with “blue” lips).

Last word: This lipstick is not for everyone. It screams unconventional-ism. But anyway who decides what colours are socially acceptable? There was a time no-one could ever think of wearing orange lips in public and now we have tangerine officially named the colour of season. I love it for its unique…and crazy! And the plus point? It makes your teeth appear really white!

Also I’ve found a great way of incorporating it into my daily life. I use this for layering purposes. You remember OCC lip tars and Sleek Pout Paints where you mix and match different colours to get your own unique colour? I layer different glosses and lipsticks over it to get new shades. That said, I still don’t see myself wearing this out on the streets.

Price: £15.50 (Rs.1300)

So is it for you? A difficult one to answer! Well…yes if you are makeup artist or are into Gothic and punk fashion. Or in general if you love making a statement with bold and unconventional colours out there then this is a must have for you. Its a pretty teal – not green not blue – just teal. The finish is totally matte and you need well primed lips to wear it, it wears on for hours and hours without smudging or transferring. You can try layering it with other colours to get different hues.

Great review! Maybe we would be able to wear this after 2050 when teal lips and neon pink hair would be the trends of the season (remembering Priyanka Chopra in Love Story 2050);)
