How Smoking Effects Your Looks

Okay so you already know you should quit. And you must have tried atleast once…only to come back again. I’m not writing this post to sound like your mummy but who knows this post might push someone to quit to atleast give it a thought (smokers are stubborn!)

There is no one in my family who smokes but there are some people I care about who smoke (and I know you are reading this). So the ‘smoking is injurious to health’ kind of warnings don’t really scare you, right? Well this might..

Icky teeth and diseases: Say good bye to dreams of pearly white teeth right now if you smoke. Chances are you already have stained teeth. Add some dental whitening cost to every cigarette you smoke…and mind you a good teeth whiten ing service doesn’t come cheap! And not just that, according to a 2005 U.K. study in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, smokers are up to
SIX times more likely than nonsmokers to develop gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss.

Wounds, scars and stretch marks: Nicotine causes narrowing of the blood vessels that limit oxygen-rich blood flow to the tiny vessels. That means your wounds will take much longer to heal and will probably leave bigger and redder scars . So all the face-lifts, tooth extractions and periodontal procedures you are probably going to need will take very long to heal. Also, the nicotine damages the fibers and connective tissue in your skin which leads to loss of skin elasticity and ultimately stretch marks.

Bye bye beauty: Imagine a child coming up to you in your 30s saying “uncle whats the secret of your looks at such old age?” Won’t it be embarassing? Well brace yourself for situations like this. Smoking hampers the blood supply that keeps skin tissue looking supple and healthy which leads to premature skin aging, wrinkles and lines. Nicotine reduces blood flow leaving your skin dry and discolored. It also depletes many nutrients like vitamin C which helps protect and repair skin damage. Say bye to glowing and healthy skin.

Under eye bags: If you smoke then you are 4 times more likely to get deep blue-black dark circles under your eyes than non-smokers. And not just dark circles, expect early wrinkles, lines and crow’s feet. Since the skin around the eyes is the thinnest, it will be the first to show the signs.

Wight issues: Cigarettes can suppress your appetite and often smokers have a lower body weight than nonsmokers. And this is not good news people! If the smoking is continued than it can make you look anorexic.

Over-all body effects: Not just your face, smoking will effect your body too, ofcourse. The nicotine in cigarette not only makes your teeth brown, but it’s also blamed for staining fingers and nails yellow. Just look at the fingers of chain smokers and you will know what I’m talking about.

Thinner hair and graying: The chemicals effect your hair follicles and generate cell-damaging free radicals which lead to thin and brittle hair. Also, the hair will gray faster and sooner than your non-smoking friends. Oh by the way this all applies if you have any hair left by that time.

The smell: Don’t you just hate it? It repels people!

I know most smokers don’t care about the health reasons but it can strongly effect your dating life. If vanity is your sin, smoking is criminal for you!

Tell me if you smoke? And if you do then what are your thought on this article?
