L’Oreal Paris Mat Magique All-In-One Matte Transforming Compact Powder: Review, Matte test for Oily Skin

By Contributor: Ananya

Compact powder is an everyday essential in a girl’s make-up kit due to its many beauty benefits. A good compact helps in setting foundation, controls oil secretion and gives a matte smooth and toned finish which allows make-up to last longer. Recently, I came across the L’Oréal Paris Mat Magique All-In-One Matte Transforming Powder and instantly fell in love with it and also just did its review. The first thing that you notice is the very attractive packaging! With a subtle interplay of purple, pink, black, and gloss; it screams elegance and attraction! I put it to the matte or moisture retention experiment for oily skin girls. Let’s see how the test went.

Compacts should be light weight and easy to carry and come in various shapes and attractive packaging. They are travel sized allowing them to be easily slipped in any one of the handbag’s pockets without occupying much space. With brands racing against each other to deliver innovative and incredible products, we are literally spoilt for choices! On rare occasions, you might actually stumble across the product you so wanted!

My skin type freaks me out! Its varies enormously from season t season and in different climates! Though it is very sensitive and sometimes tends to border on the drier side, I tend to use crème based compacts and I am vary of anything else. Though, I’ve had my share of high end products with their fine mineral content and incredible performance, they tend to fall flat when it comes to most of the Indian skin tones or the wide range of Indian climates.

The loreal mat magique compact comes in a round, transparent case with shiny pink border and the shade is visible from the outside, making it even prettier. The size of the case itself is small and easily fits in your palm. It has double compartments with the powder on top and a white coloured sponge in the bottom compartment. It has a mirror stuck on the under-side of the first compartment.

L’Oreal claims: It’s the Matte that does it all! Infused with Volcanic Perlite Minerals Mat Magique compact lets you stay shine-free, worry-free, and flawless for 12 hours.

THE MATTE TEST – Moisture Retention Experiment with L’Oreal Paris Mat Magique Compact Powder:

Apart from it’s usual contents, the L’Oréal Paris Mat Magique All-In-One Matte Transforming Powder contains Volcanic perlite which is a natural mineral that has a lot of water absorption and retention abilities and is also a great sebum absorber. To test out this claim of moisture retention quality, and its absorptive powers, I decided to undertake a little fun experiment.

I took the L’Oréal Paris Mat Magique All-In-One Matte Transforming Powder and I took another compact (non–cream, powder based) and sprayed a few drops of water on both of them. As the water droplets aggregated and clumped to form a huge ball on the surface of the other compact, the Mat Magique immediately absorbed it all and but didn’t release it in the sponge and did not show any alteration in consistency or performance when I swatched it on my skin again and compared it with the powder I swiped from a drier spot!

L’Oreal Paris Mat Magique Compact Powder: Does it Work?

Mat Magique compact powder  gives a matte effect and controls oil secretion and lasts for about 3-4 hours in humid climatic conditions and an hour or two more in air-conditioned areas. It is very light weight and travel friendly. The sponge of mat magique is of a good quality which is soft and doesn’t irritate the skin. The mirror, however, is in the wrong place. Stuck in the under-side of the first compartment, it is very inconvenient to continuously flip the top compartment  when applying the powder, especially on the go and also in cases of emergency applications. If used after foundations and concealers, it gives a matte, flawless look which we all crave.

The shades of the compact are rich and match the Indian skin tones. These shades are hard to find and even harder to properly match with the skin tone as most products usually come out with compact powders which suit only very fair skinned women. Most compacts are heavily priced these days and the qualities are a disappointment. This loreal compact offers more for less . For Rs.399 we are getting tones that suit our skin colour and texture, provide a  wonderful matte effect and extra protection from the sun. And it also comes in a light weight, attractive, elegant package!

Price in India: Rs.399

Conclusion: It did pass the moisture retention test swimmingly! It retains moisture very well and does not dry out the skin. On top of that, it absorbs excess oil secretion and leaves the skin shine free and radiant and has a perfect matte finish!

The compact is very reasonably priced. It costs Rs.399 for 6g. The colours are quite warm with somewhat neutral undertones. The powder itself is very fine and easily glides and blends onto the skin making it perfect for everyday use. Coverage can be built without the cake-y effect. The compact powder acts as an extra protection if you apply it with a sunscreen base as it contains SPF 34 PA+++.
