10 Best Outfit Inspirations from Serena van der Woodsen of Gossip Girl
By Contributor: Srishti
My ladies.. the fashion world has officially welcomed me!! I, Srishti Gupta will now be studying FASHION MERCHANDISING at Pearl Academy *happy dance* Oh yeah.. Oh yeah!! Anyway, back to business. So, after Blair Waldorf it’s Serena’s turn today. Where Blair is the innocently insecure and experimental one, Serena van der Woodsen is the bolder and the confident one. She is tall, slender, pretty and blonde. But she definitely doesn’t fit in the blonde category by brain. Oh by that I remember a joke.
Two blondes talking, one of them says: – You know, I have cheated a taxi driver yesterday!!
Another asks: – How did you do this?
The blonde replies: – I paid, but I didn’t sit in the taxi.
Serena though hot, has been very simple (yet smart) on the show. She had her way with casuals and coats and was not very experimental. She has this love for bling, you will see her wearing a ‘LOT’ of jhatak golden (seen in the very first episode) This time, I am going to make the post type oriented rather than outfit oriented.
1. Grey and relatives
She completely rocks this grey Yigal Azrouel strapless jersey dress with Carla Reiter diamond copper necklace and M.C.L. by Matthew Campbell Laurenza cuff bracelet. Blessed with the most perfect figure, she makes micro minis not seem that mini. She adds this certain grace to everything she wears.
She dramatically dons this Zuhair Murad grey sheer lace gown (fall 2010) with Leopoldo Giordano suede pumps. The outfit is accessorized with Halston Heritage Susan chainmail clutch and Double Happiness Zahav earrings. Everything about the whole look is very delicate, be it the delicate lace on the gown or the light earrings.
2. Bodycon/ bandage dresses
On Left: Wearing – Hervè Leger bandage tank dress, Right: Wearing -Stella McCartney paneled jersey dress, Siman Tu earrings, Valentino clutch.
Don’t you just love the lace work? These are the type of dresses which even show water bump if you drink little water, forget about eating anything. But I guess she is too perfect to worry about anything.
3. Coat Obsession
On left: Wearing –Twenty8Twelve Truman coat, Manolo Blahnik grey suede Reata peep-toe mary-jane pumps, Stephen Dweck hand-woven bib necklace, Kotur’s Wallace gold leaf haircalf handbag
Aaaaaahhhh!! What do I not love about it? I love everything… I mean look at the bag, and the coat- amazingly cut! Anyone can simply be lovestruck with the whole assemble.
Middle: Wearing – Ralph Lauren black label Elodie shearling cape, Barney’s New York peaked top ankle boots in brown
Anyone who has shoe fetish must have noticed her huge boots collection, some of which are to die for, like these brown ankle boots. Her confidence to carry just a coat with simple stockings and any kind of foot wear is very motivating on a personal level. By watching her, you get know that there is as much grace and elegance in wearing stockings with simply a coat, as there would be in wearing coats with denims.
On right: That’ me..Inspired!
4. Cleavage Queen
On left: Wearing – Jenny Packham dress (fall 2010), Raphael Young blue leopard sparkle pumps
Isn’t gorgeous the word we are searching for? Smart, sassy, beautiful, the outfit is everything. Don’t you at times wish that you had the liberty to wear all this in India?!
On bottom right: Sorry guys for not being able to find the designer of this one. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful yellow piece. Even with her assets literally popping out of the dress, she does not look at all slutty. Graceful is the word for her here.
5. Holidaylicious
On left: Wearing – George Chakra swarovski cage corset dress (couture spring 2010), Rag&Bone razor coat, J. Crew camden suede brogues, See by Chloé cherry mini bag
On right: Wearing – Dries van Noten blazer, Marc by Marc Jacobs peep-toe ankle boots (did I not tell you about her amazing boots collection), Chanel 2.55 red chain bag
Such smart, bright and colorful pieces should be packed in everyone’s holiday suitcases, for we all so love photogenic outfits for the best facebook uploads.
6. Denim love
On right: Wearing – Ralph Lauren collection “Breanna” double peplum blazer, Alice+Olivia pintucked white shirt, Rich&Skinny jeans, Michael by Michael Kors Penelope black boots (Aahhh!! Boots again!), Celine “Watch me work” green crocodile bag (Did you know third hardest skin in the world is that of a crocodile and the hardest is that of a KANGAROO? )
On left: Wearing – ADAM double breasted embroidered collar car coat, Matthew Williamson studded crepe de Chine blouse, Mulberry Bayswater bag in grey suede
She is so chick! An inspiration! Image one has her dressed in a simple yet very smart outfit. Winner in this case is the coat-blouse combination. In image two, we see her dressed in a beautiful, eye-popping coat with simple skinny denims. The coat has a very unique embroidery and color combination. (It’s my personal favorite)
7. Dress to Impress
On right: Wearing – Marchesa ombrè fringed dress, Christian Louboutin very galaxy mirrored pumps, Martine Wester emerald crystal drop earrings
And we thought Katrina’s fringed dress looked pretty in ‘zara zara’… duh!!
On left: Wearing – Marchesa dress (fall 2010)
The dress would have looked like any other dress, had it not been for the humongous bow at the back. This is what is called pretty in pink. She looks a doll in both the dress.
8. Mix and match queen
On right: Wearing – Haute Hippie feather sequin vest, Vena Cava tank top, Rodarte for opening ceremony reverse pleated skirt, Mulberry Harriet ostrich tote, Siman Tu veined white turquoise necklace
(The catch about the ostrich leather is- it’s not real if your last finger’s nail can’t lift the spot from the little hole under it)
On left: Wearing –Patterson J. Kincaid Sao Paolo tank, Cesare Paciotti slingback booties
This woman has her way with mix and match. She makes her way to perfection with the simplest of things. From both the images, one can infer how simple both the outfits are if the tank tops, bags and bottoms are put separately, but the education lies in learning how to make them glam by accessorizing them with right accessories, footwear and bag.
9. Longevity
Wearing: Marchesa greay feather gown
God, please give her angel wings!!!!!
10. The Royal Bride
Wearing: Georges Chakra Couture gown
And yes!!! She is definitely bold. Liquid gold bodice gown for a wedding gown was definitely a gamble as it could or could not have been accepted. But Serena she is! She looks a stunningly electrifying bride in the gown. It is the perfect outfit for the perfect ending of the series.
Serena’s sense of fashion is “closet friendly”, as in; it is easy and practical to get inspired by her as she tends to flaunt the looks that generally every girl can find in their closets in some way or the other. Her style is about widening your view and stepping out of your comfort zone.
IT’S ABOUT HAVING FUN WITH YOUR LOOKS!
