The Sailor is here!! I knew I wouldn’t get much time to spend on VNA so I’ve already lined up a lot of reviews..infact I’ve done all the month’s “hard work” beforehand so I can have fun, use all my makeup, shop, accept gifts *wink* and just enjoy being a sailor girl! A few months back I payed the Sephora Delhi a visit (just a spot check you know..to see if things have improved there) and bought the popular and much loved Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm after my favourite Forest Essentials Kerala Lime Glaze Balm
Burt’s Bees Claims: The original. The best. And still your favorite. Our must-have balms have been playing in purses and pockets since 1991. Beeswax conditions skin, while antioxidant Vitamin E moisturizes. A final hint of Peppermint Oil provides that one-of-a-kind refreshing tingle. The result? Smooth, supple lips everyone will be buzzing about.
The balm itself is clear. Although they do have some variants in the tinted lip balms category if you are interested. The finish is matte and you won’t get juicy looking lips. Just plain matte lips like you have applied nothing. So this makes it a perfect option to use under lipsticks. But the matteness in no way comes in the way of its moisturizing properties. It heals chapped lips nicely. I use it every night and it gives me smooth lips the next day.
On application, you feel a minty tingling sensation and that is the peppermint in it working. The tingling goes after a while but you can still taste and smell the mint in it. Some girls say mint lip balms sting your lips to give you a bigger pout..well I didn’t notice that!
What I totally love about Burt’s Bees lip balms is the use of completely natural and organic ingredients. They also claim to be Gluten free. If the ingredients they show are what they actually put in it then I’m never using the chemical loaded commercial lip balms we get these days. I’m all for natural skin care products! And that cute Bumble Bee on the lid just convinces you somehow.
The texture of this balm is quite hard and solid like the TNC Berry Lip Balm. I wonder how the girls get the chapsticks to work since hard tube lip balms are more difficult to work with than tubs. I’ve to scrape it with my nails everytime I use it. I wonder if its because f the winters or its like this all year round. I personally like my lip balms to be soft and wet. I’m planning to heat it over a flame to see if that helps.
Burt’s Bees Tin v/s Burt’s Bees Chapsticks
The balm comes in yellow tins and tubes. I got the tin because the tube had lesser quantity compared to the tub (see makeup obsession is healthy for your math). Although tubs are supposedly unhygienic and yada yada..I don’t care since I use enough tubes (read lipsticks and tinted lip balms) already. But this Burt Bees tin is so damn hard to open. I’ve used TBS lip balm tub in the past and many others and all of them had this screw up mechanism but you have to yank this one hard to open. Its so frustrating that now I only cover the balm top and not close it completely. Who were you making this lip balm for Burts Bees? Body Builders?!
I want to try Carmex lip balms next. Are they available in Sephora India too? Also I want to try the EOS Lip Balms and Burt’s Bees Mango Chapstick and the tinted lip balms. Oh my friends are right..Shruti was saying the other day “your lip balms budget is more than my lipsticks budget!” I think I should show you my lip balm collection. I’ve got a dozen lying in every corner of my room. I have assigned a lip balm to every handbag too!
Price: Rs.400 (Sephora)
VNA Rating: 4/5
So is it for you? Burt’s Bees Beeswax Peppermint Lip Balm is the Burt’s Bees first original lip balm and it claims to be totally natural. The lip balm is matte and gives you a no-lip-balm-applied feeling. Its a good option to use under lipsticks and lipglosses. The lip balm heals chapped lips and makes lips smooth and soft. If you don’t mind the hard texture and inconvenient packaging then you should definitely give it a go.
