Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick Liar Lips Review and Swatches
By Contributor: Shreya Jain
If you ask me personally, I am all out eye makeup person, I buy tons of products related to eye and hence I tend to invest a lot of time (and money!) in makeup products for other parts of the face, so that I buy the “IT” shade, be it foundation, blush or in today’s review and swatch reference a lipstick! Even after being an all-out eye makeup person, I can’t help but agree that given the right shade, lips can be the most seductive feature of the face. “Liar lips” when I first read this name all came to mind was the image of seductive, sexy lips which we all girls yearn for, a special mention to Angelina Jolie *jealousy pang* Coming back, Liar lips, it is one of the shades from Benefit’s Silky finish lipstick range, which comes in 11 shades.
Benefit Claims: Our flattering silky finish lipsticks are sheer and buildable, so you can customize your look: a light wash of color for au natural gals or an amped-up POP of color for the drama queen in you! Available in 11 irresistible shades. It has the feeling of gloss…but it’s not sticky!
Let’s see if this lipstick lives up to its name or not!
Colour: Liar lips a medium dark chestnut colour which would flatter all Indian skintones from fair to dark, which is plus point as this is a universal colour. It is extremely glossy too!
Pigmentation: Because the range is of the sheer family I went ahead to buy the darkest colour, and I have to agree that contrary to its name, these lipsticks are highly pigmented, but I guess that also depends on the shade ,the lighter colours may be more sheer than this.
Texture: As the range line suggests, this lipstick is highly silky, it glides on to your lips like a dream without tugging or pulling. *I like* Even after being highly glossy this lipstick doesn’t feel sticky at all.
Lasting power: Because of its high glossiness, the colour fades within 2-3 hours but it leaves the lips moisturized for upto 6 hours, the lipstick doesn’t settle into fine lines though!
Packaging: Benefit is known for its packaging, I instantly fell in love with packaging, the lipstick comes in a sleeek glossy packaging with the usual benefit abstract print, the bullet of the lipstick is contained in a matte tube with Benefit written on it, the packaging is so chic and sophisticated!
Quantity: The total weight of the lipstick is 300 gm, the quantity of just the bullet is although not mentioned. (I checked up with the benefit website, even they haven’t mentioned it)
Recommended ways of use: You can pair this lipstick with a dramatic look such as a smokey eye as it wouldn’t take much of attention or you can also pair it with a neutral look! The colour is a win win!
This is how Liar Lips looks on me
Pros of Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick Liar Lips:
Pretty deep chestnut shade
The glossiness
Sleek packaging
No fragrance
Highly moisturizing
The soft texture
Cons of Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick Liar Lips:
Price
Low lasting power
Availability
Price: The official website has its price as $18 which is roughly equal to Rs 1170 which is a little pricey for the lasting power. I got it for Rs 850 though.
Availability: As of now benefit doesn’t ship to India, I got the lipstick from strawberrynet.com which offered a discount on its MRP too! *happiness*
VNA Rating: 4.5/5
Conclusion: Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick Liar Lips is a deep chestnut shade that can be worn on its own or with smokey eyes. The shade is warm and would suit fair to dark Indian skin tones alike. Its a universal shade. The quality of the lipstick, pigmentation, staying power, texture, packaging, etc everything is good so the high price won’t hurt much. You should try atleast one shade from this range.
