Review, Swatches, Price, Buy Online Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Face Powder
By Contributor: Monica
When I got to know that my bhabhi’s sister is going to US for a month, I was all ecstatic and handed over a list of products to her. Come on yaar, itna toh haq banta hai! I was so badly waiting for her to return to get my products that I was literally counting the days. Then finally after a month, I had my entire wishlist in my hand I couldn’t be more than happy. This Hoola bronzer from Benefit which I will review and swatch today was a part of the same list. She got me a travel size of this Bronzing face powder which I think is a better option than the full size Benefit makeup products because you can get 2-3 different travel size products at the rate of single full size one.
I have a huge nose, no literally its too wide compared to rest of the face and I just cannot do without contouring it to look slimmer. Also, on special occasions I like to contour my cheeks for that beautiful chiseled look. Prior to this, I was using a bronzer that came in one of the makeup kits
I was gifted by a relative. It was okayish average product so I wanted to get some better bronzer to work around and after bit of research zeroed upon this HOOLA bronzer. Lets see if this lived upto its expectations or not.
Benefit Claims: Dust this award-winning bronzing powder over your chin, cheeks and forehead for a healthy, natural looking “tan” year-round. Complete with soft, natural-bristle cheek brush, it’s pure matte color…no sparkle or shine!
My Review of Benefit Hoola:
Packaging: This is a travel size product so obviously the packaging is not top notch. Its ekdum plasticky types but what I like is that they have designed it in such a way that it shuts properly and would never open in the nag or vanity box.
This was my first venture into the world of bronzers and I am like more or less satisfied with this. The colour, as you can see, is muddy brown, more like camel brown which complements my nc-25 skin tone quite well. The Bronzing face powder is completely matte sans any shine shimmer which makes it more appropriate for contouring. I dab this in the hollow of my cheeks with the Real Techniques blending brush and then blend it in to the skin with a normal blusher brush. This way am able to pack the colour precisely in the hollow and also blend it easily.
The texture is very soft milled and easy to blend. Though if you look at the benefit pan, it appears to be very hard and scratchy but that not the case. The only issue is that flies like anything. While picking the hoola bronzer on my blush I can see the powder fly everywhere which I don’t like. But this in no way hinders its performance.
This face bronzer is insanely pigmented and you I don’t need more than 2 swipes for the visible contouring. Anything more than 2 swipes will make me look very harsh.
I always contour on special occasions only, so over properly done base with primer, foundation and powder, the bronzer manages to stay in place for 4-5 hours at the max after which I can see it fading. I was expecting some more stay time with this brand!
What I Like about Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder:
- Soft and smooth texture
- Insanely pigmented
- Easy to blend
- Does its job perfectly
- Perfect colour for fair skin tone
- Completely matte without any shimmer- perfect for contouring
What I don’t like about Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder:
- Powder flies while picking onto brush
- Stays put for only 4-5 hours on prep and primed skin
- Expensive
- Not easily available in India though Sephora stocks benefit products
Price: $28 for 8gm
VNA Rating: 4/5 (-1 for average staying power and unavailability)
Do I Recommend: Completely, Girls with fair to medium skin tone who are into contouring, should absolutely get this and better if you can lay your hands on travel size pack. For the dark skin tone fairies, I doubt if this would show up.
