Want shiny, glossy and absolutely drop-dead gorgeous locks? Simple, slap some Aloe vera gel, massage it and let it work its magic. Shuddered of running your fingers across your face for its so dry that you fear it’ll fall off like wilted leaves of f a tree ? (yes, that’s exaggeration to a whole new level but sometimes, it is alright to let our imagination run amok, right? ) Slap some aloe vera gel. Being lazy I got a packaged one from Baba Ramdev
But really f you want gorgeous skin, head to your balcony (or to your neighbour’s terrace/garden which should rather be called “sneaking” instead of “heading”) , locate an Aloe vera plant and like Kim Possible (don’t tell me that you cannot relate to cartoons. We all have a kid inside us. Let’s keep him/her alive. By the way, Disney’s cartoons are immortal. Period) and grab a few leaves of that Aloe vera plant. Extract the juice and let your face repair itself. Of course, it goes without saying that one has to be consistent.
“But I am a lazy soul. I won’t even care to leave my bed even if there’s an earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale”, says a voice in our head right now, right? So, let’s raid the market and find that one Aloe vera which nourishes our skin just the way we want. In keeping with this line of thought, I zeroed in on Patanjali Aloe vera one fine afternoon (afternoons, by the way in Delhi are as pleasant to normal humans like me as it would be for anything being grilled in an oven). You can smile if not laugh on that attempt of mine to build an analogy. Anyway without further ado, let’s head straight to the review of Patanjali Aloe Vera
My review of Patanjali Aloe Vera Gel:
Baba Ramdev Aloe Vera Gel comes packed in a transparent plastic tube with a sturdy, leakage-free flip-open cap that does not require you to explore the Hulk in you ! In short-it’s leakage-free, sturdy, hygienic to use and easy to carry. All these make it on par as far as the packaging is concerned for me.
The aloe gel has a cool (not overly cool or icy cold) but slightly (mind you, I have written ‘slightly’) sticky texture. Real Aloe Vera gel is neither cool nor sticky, so to me this is fishy. Another point to be noted (makes me picture myself as a lawyer as I write this) is that the patanjali gel has a light green colour
A look at the ingredients’ list of Patanjali Aloe Vera gel and I couldn’t turn a blind eye to the fact that it had colours (doesn’t matter to me if they are permitted. Real doesn’t have. Why do you want to add colours?). Never the less, I decided to go ahead with it and try it on myself (after all, I had by now invested Rs 75/-)
I pressed the pack gently and the gel came oozing out. A coin-sized amount of baba ramdev gel sufficient to cover one’s face but the question remains if it worth being applied on one’s face. Hold your breath! The answer is a big ‘NO’. Why? Because it is not Aloe Vera in the first place. Its ingredients’ list proudly flashes the addition of BHT (ButylatedHydroxytuloene), preservatives and fragrance (under the garb of which, a number of toxic chemicals are added).
So, why would I spend money to slap chemicals on my face in the name of rejuvenation? On the face of it, patanjali aloe gel does make one’s skin appear bright and clear but that’s all due to BHT which is skin lightening chemical that wreaks havoc in the long run on our skin. I didn’t feel that it did anything noteworthy besides imparting transient radiance which mellowed down within minutes. As far as moisturisation is concerned, my dry skin remained dry even after being massaged with Patanjali Aloe Vera. As of now, it’s lying like a stranded pirate in my shelf. Don’t frown. I just watched Pirates of the Caribbean recently!

CONCLUSION: Toss this out of your beauty closet. This time look for a florist and buy a real Aloe Vera plant. It takes little maintenance and costs less than a single tube of this rubbish. It’s your skin after all. Rejuvenate it and not pump chemicals in the name of rejuvenation.

Hi Nidhal, initially, I didn't like the gel as well. But, eventually, I started using it at night, before putting on the night cream and it changed everything! I actually got the same results which serums provide. If you still have something of it left, may be give it a try that way?
But well, I haven't used it for long. Beauty addicts' curse. We move on too frequently. :D
Thanks for providing such a detailed explanation, Nivedita. Honestly, I've used real Aloe vera so much that now my skin has become used to it. Also, i dislike the fragrance of this one. My skin is quite dry so, i rely on extra virgin olive oil to hydrate and repair it at night. Thank you for the suggestion. The point I'm trying to drive home is that this one's not real. It's just a gel. Extraction of real Aloe vera gel is quite easy and once you get a hang of it, it takes merely 5 minutes daily. Once again thanks for the recommendation. I think our skin types too differ because this makes my skin a little dry or at the best, doesn't do anything. Take care.
That I completely agree with you. The gel can't be too real. In fact, I don't have too much faith the the 'naturalness' or herbals products. I really don't care either.
My balcony is overloaded with aloe vera. But that laziness is hard to get over. :(

Actually, there are a few organic brabds in India whivh are certfied organic. Obtaining organic certification in India is a Herculean task. I've tried their products and they work immensely well. Bon Organics is one such brand. They are USDA organic certified :) Anyway, to each his own. If you ever wish to try organic products, always look for some or the other organic certificate. Many companies (Khadi for example) add all rubbish under an evasive tagline of Ayurvedic/herbal product.
Even I do not get it why beauty companies add colour in aloe vera gel when it's a known fact that it's actually colourless! Even I bought it for emergency purposes after reading rave reviews and didn't checked the ingredient list at shop. I regret buying it. Even I use actual aloe gel from the plant. It's way better than this farce of a product!

Thanks for dropping by and checking out my review. I have used two brands of Aloe vera so far and regret squandering my money on both of them (one of them being Patanjali). Not just the colour, what bothers me is how much chemical is added to these products and why are they being marketed as "Aloe vera gel" when they are just mixtures of various chemicals with added fragrance and colour?
It is really discomfiting to see play prey to these rubbish products. Real Aloe vera turns stale within half an hour of extraction and this one has a shelf life of 18 months. It cannot be even 1% genuine. And I won't buy the argument that extraction of gel from a real Aloe vera leaf is time-consuming. Come on, you'll get accustomed to it after 4-5 times. Also, it's your skin. Why smother it in the name of nourishing it? I hope more people are sensitised :) Thanks for reading!
I liked reading your post. It was honest and I like that. :D I agree with you. Aloe vera get oxidised after getting in contact with oxygen. Anyway I do not really trust these so called " herbal " or " ayurvedic " products. Rules and regulations regarding these are very lax in our country. Even if they add 1% of anything herbal, they can taut their products as herbal and get relaxation in taxes. That's so many brands are ' Herbal ' or ' Ayurvedic '. It's best to read the ingredient list and informative about what we are applying on our skin.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. A few days ago, I read online herbal, natural anf organic are three different terms. We use them interchangeably. The kind of tweaking which you've mentioned happens in case of 'natural'and 'herbal' products but as organic 'organic' products are concerned, obtaining an organic certification in India is really arduous and time consuming. The only certified organic brand that is Indian I know of is BON ORGANICS. They are based out of Auroville, an experimental township in Tamil Nadu. Their products particularly shampoo + conditionwr work wonders. Now, again I'm not refuting the claim that they'd be all natural but certainly, if they are certified (USDA organic certification) my fear is allayed.
Also, their products aren't so highly priced that one is compelled to chuck them point blank. You can Google them if you're interested :)

That's great to know. I tried to make a homemade shampoo too some months ago using amla, reetha and shikakai pods. They made my hair a little too dry than it usually is. In fact, it made my locks look like the ball of dirt that vacuum cleansers leave one with :P
I use a hair pack made up of curd, methi and neem leaves. Let me know yours too. My hair is dry so i cherry pick ingredients that don't suck the moisture out of it :)
I am too lazy to grow an Aloe plant by myself :p I have been using this gel since quite a long time! I agree this does not do anything noteworthy but I like how it calms down my acne prone sensitive skin :) Nice review girl <3

Nicely written. I bought this gel and i hate to bits. I saw some YouTuber's reviews and bought. Totally regret it. Rustic Art aloe vera gel is good. I am using it as a face moisturizer and it actually moitutizes. Not enough for dry skin though.
I too used to rely on YouTubers' reviews sometime back, Vanathi but nowadays I'm afopting more natural stuff into my regimen. After reading a bit on the ills of these chemicals, I've thrown moat of my products in the trash.
Let me know if you're interested in organic products and I'll suggest you some certified organic brands. As of now, we're in the boat. We hate this Patanajali aloe vera gel to the hilt.
