Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Cannes 2015: 6 Outfits, Makeup, Hair

Review, Photos of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Cannes 2015 Outfits, Makeup Looks, Hair and Details

By Contributor: Ananya

The former Miss World has had a run of over a decade at Cannes as the L’Oreal Brand Ambassador and she was one of the three ambassadors from home who attended the Cannes Film festival 2015 (along with Katrina Kaif and Sonam Kapoor). I am covering a few posts on how our home-girls have taken on the international scene at the coveted French platform this year. For those of us who’ve looked closely at Aishwarya Rai’s sartorial evolution on the Cannes red carpet over the past decade, let’s find out if this year tops as the icing on the cake. Review includes the various dresses and gowns she wore along with makeup products and hair. Lets see if Aishwarya impressed us.

Aishwarya Rai in Sabyasachi at Cannes 2015:

Before her first appearance on Cannes red carpet this year, she attended an event on Gender Equality in a Sabyasachi dress. Geez! It was pretty; a perfect, summer floral, it looked light and crisp. And boy, her make-up! She looks fresh faced and adorable.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in The Oscar de la Renta: Dress and Makeup

So Aishwarya chose a maroon Oscar de la Renta gown to a photocall and guess who decided to photo-bomb? Isn’t the fabric sticking out absurdly from the dress? It looks all well and good above the waist and she looks pretty, but, below the waist, it reminds me of Richard Burton’s Petrucio ripping off the dress on display apparently because he was displeased with something . I am wondering if the designer also underwent similar emotions and ripped out the fabric because the dress was already such an eye-sore.

We will never know why she chose to wear it, especially after she had an amazing run last year, just when she had picked up those amazing and sensible Armani, Gucci and Cavalli numbers, leaving the ghosts of her ancient sartorial concoctions behind.

For the makeup, she most definitely wore Pure Garnet from L’Oreal Star Collection Red Lipsticks.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in The Green Elie Saab Gown: Dress, Makeup

For the first red carpet look for this year at the screening of Cate Blanchett starrer ‘Carol’ on May 17, Aishwarya chose a green Elie Saab dress that did nothing to her figure except make her look frumpy. It did not accentuate any of her assets and made her appear disproportionate. I don’t know girls, but doesn’t it look confused and cut out of various fabrics?

It was clearly a step down from her spectacular fish scales like networked, gold patterned Gucci she had worn last year that had made her look like a beautiful mermaid.

To match the green on her gown, she chose to apply a metallic green eye liner on her lower eyelid. The upper lid looked like it could do with a bit of balancing out because the lower lid was exuding an over powering effect that had quite the reverse effect than it was intended for. It accentuated her eyes’ puffiness and tiredness. Her magenta lips only worsened the effect. So overall, it was a complete let down in terms of both dress and make-up.

But just for records, Aishwarya Rai applied the L’Oreal Paris Moist Matte Lipstick Arabian Night on her lips.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in The Ralph and Russo dress at Cannes 2015

For her second red carpet appearance this year on May 20 for the screening of the film ‘Youth’, she donned a white Ralph and Russo number with beautiful folds that reminds one of white chocolate shavings on a delicious pastry. The pretty black sprinklings concentrated on one side of the dress makes it all the more gorgeous. The dress is lovely. Don’t you agree, ladies?

The only one thing that’s off with the entire picture is that Aishwarya looks like she ran out before they could fully do her face. The make-up looks so bleak and wanting. A dark lipstick might have balanced out the whiteness of the dress or it might have been supplemented with a bit more dramatic eye-make up or a spot of flush on her cheeks!

Verdict: Great dress this time around, but bad make-up.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in The Chakra Dress: Mermaid Look

This one’s gorgeous. Designed by the Lebanese designer Georges Chakra, this beautiful number is such a perfect portrayal of summer, beautiful golden sand and glamour. Doesn’t she look like a mermaid, the dress is so perfect. But once again, it’s the make-up that’s a bit of a turn off. I am seriously wondering now, with L’Oreal’s wonderful new launch this summer, themed on Cannes, did they seriously run out of ideas on how to do her hair and make-up?

She’s sporting the same hairstyle with every one of those dresses; soft waves falling over her shoulders. Seriously?! Boring.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in The Elie Saab for amfAR Gala

It’s no doubt that Aishwarya has her share of events at Cannes which apart from the photo-call and red carpet , also comprise of events on gender equality and the high profile amfAR Cinema against AIDS Gala in Cannes o May 21.

She chose a mauve Elie Saab dress for the event. No doubt the pattern on the dress looks pretty and she has added to the bling with her diamond jewellery but then again, the make-up fails again and so does the way the dress sits on her. The nudish make-up does nothing to enhance the over all appearance nor does the dress accentuate anything. It could have been so much better!

By all means, 2014 was her best year at Cannes when she donned those amazing dresses and completed the look with that brilliant make-up. Let’s see what she has in store for next year , assuming she will retain her stalwart position for L’Oreal at Cannes.

  1. I loved all her gowns this year. I think she could’ve experimented with the hairstyle but she looked drop dead gorgeous anyway. Wayyy better than Sonam and Katrina.

  8. of course like your web site but you need to take a look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I to find it very troublesome to tell the truth on the other hand I’ll surely come back again.
