Remember the powder rooms that were such a huge highlight in the good old society flicks? Screen goddesses like Lauren Bacall and Marilyn Monroe “discussed” serious issues like beaus and fiances while elaborately powdering their noses while gliding around effortlessly in their elegant evening gowns and flirtatious coiffures. You guessed it right! An entire space dedicated to re-touching your make with a dab of compact. I will review and swatch such an evolution with a new range of compact powders from L’Oreal Paris. When I got the new Mat Magique All-In-One Matte Transforming Compact Powder
Compact powders have been ever so integral to a girl’s handbag ….and life (wink!) They’ve evolved with the evolution of women’s needs and requirements ranging from addressing the basic make up issues to suitability to travel and work environments and, of course, the various climates among other factors.
L’Oreal Paris Claims: With 5 shades, specially created to suit Indian skin tones, Mat Magique compact blends smoothly into your skin to give an impeccable coverage without looking cakey. At a special price point of just Rs. 399, L’Oréal Paris Mat Magique compact is easy to apply and frees you from touch ups, every time you decide to go out. The new compact from L’Oréal Paris is also enriched with SPF 34 PA+++ to help protect your skin from the sun and make it look blemish free, healthy and radiant all day long. Mat Magique compact – It’s the Matte that does it all! Infused with Volcanic Perlite Minerals Mat Magique compact lets you stay shine-free, worry-free,
and flawless for 12 hours.
Shades Available: G1 VANILLA IVORY, G2 GOLDEN IVORY, G7 GOLDEN AMBER, N2 NUDE VANILLA, N6 NUDE HONEY
My Review of L’Oreal Mat Magique Compact Powder:
The ingredients include talc, titanium dioxide, corn starch, kaolin, aluminium hydroxide, ethylhexylglecerine, tocopherol etc, but the ingredient that has been highlighted most is the volcanic perlite. A little research goes a long way for perlite. Turns out that it is a powdery volcanic glass that has a very high water content. It is naturally occurring and known industrially for its light weight. Apart from its manufacturing, horticultural, hydroponics and other uses, it is also gaining popularity in filtration of beer before packaging. Because it is a natural mineral with a high water retentivity and high reflectivity due to trapped water bubbles and the fact that it is a powerful sebum absorbent, it has found its way in to the cosmetic industry.
The loreal compact comes packed in a very attractive purple-pink, somewhat glossy, box and the powder itself is held in a plastic case that has two compartments. Overall, it does look very elegant and expensive. The shade is easy to view and is in the upper compartment and the sponge is in the lower compartment adjacent to the mirror. On a whole, this is slight twist to the usual packages when it comes to compact powders. The mirror is decent in size but the whole problem with this arrangement is that you have to continuously flip between the two compartments and that somewhat takes away the ease of application.
The mat magique compact has a slight talc fragrance but is very lightweight and transfers easily from the plate to the sponge to the face.
While applying, I chose one side of my face and left the other half bare to test it out. The compact powder does work really well, not only does it add instant radiance, it has a moderate coverage and sets perfectly on my cream based sunscreen and also my hydration serum. I have been trying the new loreal mat magique compact on various bases to find out the perfect combination and have greatly liked the results so far. It is extremely light-weight and breathable, and does impart a shine free, uber matte radiant finish. It retains its integrity for a few hours before you need to re-apply but this factor would depend greatly on your climate and the season.
It comes in 5 shades especially designed for Indian skin tones: G1 VANILLA IVORY, G2 GOLDEN IVORY, G7 GOLDEN AMBER, N2 NUDE VANILLA, N6 NUDE HONEY
I guess a few more shades would have been nice as these shades are more suited for pinkish and chocolate-y tones rather than skin types with olive undertones. All in all, the cute, hot pink boxes are a nice addition to your vanity kit or your handbag.
