Top 5: Best Johara Cosmetics Products for Glowing Skin

By Contributor: Ananya

After what seems like an eternity of using a range of products from a variety of skin care monoliths, throwing in just about everything to spruce up the mixture, I recently discovered a skin care range that completely altered my skin care regime and turned it inside out. I am using a set of 5 revolutionary products from the house of Johara Cosmetics that has become an irreplaceable part of my daily regime. Before I proceed with the reviews of the products, let me tell you the Johara products I am using. These are one of the best skin care products in India for glowing skin I have used in a long time.

The products I am currently using from their skin care range are: Johara PhytoBright Whitening Cleanser, Johara PhytoBright Whitening Mask, Johara PhytoBright Whitening Essence, Johara PhytoBright Whitening Day Lotion with SPF 20 and Johara PhytoBright Whitening Night Cream. Here is my current skin care regime featuring the Johara cosmetics skin care range:

Johara PhytoBright Whitening Cleanser:

I start the day with pampering my face with this face wash. The texture is like that of a sparkly liquid based cream. A lot of content pours out easily so its best to be careful and pour it out slowwwly. It does not form a mountain of lather on application and is a smoothening, creamy alternative. From my personal experience, it does leave the skin luminous and extracts the oil and the grime (more relevant after a day’s work!). Also, the johara face wash does not leave the skin feeling dry, parched and therefore dull and I do not have to run off to slather a ton of moisturiser immediately to relieve the dryness.

The fragrance is mind and refreshing and as I have sensitive skin, the fragrance or the constituents have not caused any eruption or sensitization. I have been using the johara cleanser for around 2 weeks now and haven’t gone back to my previous bunch of face washes. It contains lemon peel which works as an anti-microbe and anti-oxidant and has wh itening properties. It also contains papaya extract that exfoliates the skin. Price is INR 600 for 100ml.

Johara PhytoBright Whitening Mask:

As directed, the face mask should ideally be used 2-3 times a week. I use it after an interval of 3 days, with alternating morning and evening schedules to figure out a best combination for myself. It comes out of the tube slowly as a thick, creamy paste and has a mild refreshing fragrance same as the others in this range. The clay mask easily smoothens over the skin as a mask and you might feel it tingling slightly. Also it might dry up a bit and stretch your skin if you are in a drying atmosphere. After leaving the johara face mask on for 10 minutes, it washes off very easily and leaves the skin supple, radiant and even-toned.

It contains Niacin amide, a vitamin from the Vitamin B complex that inhibits melanin from being transferred from the melanin producing cells. It also contains Glycolic acid (of AHA group, in case you are wondering!) that works as an exfoliant. It also has Beta Glucans from Barley that helps maintain the collagen balance of the skin. You can, of course, alter the way you use this one and shift between morning and evening schedules or stick to a particular time of the day in an interval of 2-3 days. Price is INR 450 for 75g.

Johara PhytoBright Whitening Essence:

This serum is lightweight, thick and does not run all over the place on pumping. Its pretty much water-based, jelly like and a couple of pumps is enough for your face and neck. I found the johara essence quick absorbing, hydrating and it smells divine. I use the face serum after the face wash or after the face wash is followed by the mask. I follow it up with the day lotion in the morning and the night cream in the evening.

It contains a combination of powerful vitamins like Vitamin B3, B6, B9 and B12 along with Vitamin C. This complex works to provide a glowing complexion. It also contains caffeine that protects the skin from photo-damage. Price is INR 1200 for 30ml.

Johara PhytoBright Whitening Day Lotion with SPF 20:

I generally use the day lotion in conjunction with my powder compact or a BB cream. The johara cream is light weight and super absorbent and as the name suggests, has inbuilt sunscreen elements. It does not make my skin oily after a while like some moisturisers tend to do when their integrity is disintegrating on the skin after a while.

The sunscreen contains Kaempferia galanga  (that’s also known as sand ginger) extracts that protects the skin from UV rays and reduces dark spots. Also contains Niacin amide. Price is INR 900 for 50ml.

Johara PhytoBright Whitening Night Cream:

I use the night cream in the evening or just before bed-time after the face wash and the johara essence/serum and sometimes throw in the johara face mask into the mix. The johara cream is creamy and non-grease, smells divine and sooths and calms the skin on application. You can actually feel it relieving your senses.

The johara night cream is quick absorbing but does not dry up or de-oxygenate the skin after a while. Next morning, I am greeted with a clear, uniform complexion and grease-free skin! Price is INR 900 for 30g.

Usually, when we deal with skin whitening products, we are faced with esoteric names and voluminous phrases that sound pretty to the ears but we are left with hardly any clue of what’s it all supposed to mean. But for the Johara PhytoBright range, I have the complex science broken down right here for you. The johara whitening products use a blend of nutrient rich plant extracts, inspired by ancient texts on Ayurveda and developed in to a complex to deliver the targeted nutrients and bio-actives to the skin for a healthy and radiant glow, clearer complexion and reduction of spot sand dullness.

The PhytoBright Complex essentially consists of Sabiwhite, Licorice, pTero White, and Cosmoperine. SabiWhite is the colour free form of a secondary metabolite found in turmeric and is known to slow down the process of melanin formation in the skin. It also acts as an anti-oxidant. Licorice also works by preventing melanin formation and is also an anti-oxidant. pTeroWhite is the trade name of the extract of Indian kino and protects against harmful UV rays and inhibits melanin formation. Cosmoperine is an extract from black pepper. Its safe and helps in the better absorption of the PhytoBright nutrients by the skin.

In case you have dark spots and pigmentation, you can also try out the PhytoBright Whitening Dark Spot Corrector from this range. It is formulated with a complex of vitamins of the B complex group and Vitamin C along with Niacin amide. It works by specifically targeting dark spots and evens out the skin tone. Price is INR 750 for 10ml.

Where to Buy Online in India: joharacosmetics.com (or by enrolling as a distributor and joining the business. Yes pretty much like Oriflame and Amway)

Conclusion: It has become a very convenient and go-to skin care regime for me. And I follow it methodically and sequentially. Though not all of the containers that I have feel travel friendly, I can definitely pop in the johara face wash, the essence and the day moisturiser in to a handbag or a travel kit. Also, the packaging is great, the products are efficient and smell nice. If you are feeling like splurging on a range of products that are really good to your skin, you can definitely give it a go. I totally recommend them.
