11 Best Essential Oils for Skin Whitening and Brightening

Top 11 Essential Oils for Skin Whitening and Lightening

Oil for skin whitening sounds like an oxymoron. Mostly, we use creams, foundations, face packs, soaps, and, in extreme cases, pills for improving our skin complexion and make it fairer and whiter. However, there are facial oils available in the market, which, not only make your skin fairer, but also improve the overall quality of the skin by providing it the right kind of nourishment and this in turn lead to whitening and lightening. We associate oil based products with tanned or dark complexion, blackheads, pigments and a complex range of problems. However, I am going to change your perception today by talking about some of the best selling essential oils for skin brightening. They are simply superb for skin. Before I get on the task of talking about oils, let me mention some benefits you can derive from these products:

Benefits of Essential Oils:

  1. Help in removing hyper pigmentation: Hyper pigmentation leads to a change in the tone and color of the skin. Dark spots are a byproduct. Pigmentation is caused because of allergies and pimples, and in case they are not treated in the nascent stage, can alter your appearance completely.
  2. Stretch marks on face and on body can be completely eradicated using these oils.
  3. Certain oils also take us out of extreme depression.
  4. Oils also cure stress and fatigue, all thanks to the aroma.
  5. Nourish the skin and keep it hydrated.

Wouldn’t you want to extract the benefits of oils?  I will mention the best oils you can use.

Lavender or Chameli Oil is best suited for dry and normal skin types. Its good for oily skin whitening. It heals the skin, soothes the nerves and curbs hyper pigmentation. You should apply this oil at night only.

5. Rose Essential Oil

Have you ever used Rose Water? If yes, then you know what I am talking about. Rose Essential Oil is a complete product in its own. You do not have to add it to another ingredient. Just apply this oil on your face, massage lightly and go off to sleep. It is also good for whitening of oily to combination skin. This product helps in lightening dark spots, eliminating pimples and keeping your skin tight as well.

6. Almond Essential Oil

Yes, it actually works well. Almond oil is extremely effective in treating under eye circles other than making the skin brighter. It nourishes the skin by delicately peeling off the dead cells, thereby giving you a fresh and sparkling look.

You can also mix this oil with Sandalwood Oil and apply on your face for effective whitening results. This can be used on normal skin. Use this oil for body massage also. This will also help you in getting rid of tanning and other benefits like clear, flawless and glowing skin.

7. Sandalwood Essential Oil

8. Olive Essential Oil

For regular use, use 2tsps of Olive Oil to half a cup of Yogurt and 3 spoons honey.  Mix well. Apply it on your face once a week for best results. This is extremely effective in getting rid of pigments and uneven skin tone. You can also use Olive Oil in removing make up. 9. Marula Essential Oil

Marula Oil, is found in Africa, and has Oleic Acid, which is required for healthy skin. It hydrates the skin naturally and has anti aging properties. If you travel a lot and your skin is constantly exposed to pollution, apply this oil every night for best results. Who wouldn’t like to try for brighter and fairer looking skin.

10. Coconut Essential Oil

You can use it for lightening skin patches. Not ideal for applying on the face though. Any burns, rashes and patches are cured as Coconut Oil cools the skin immediately.

It had rashes on my arms, and these rashes were cured by Coconut Oil. My face had become extremely patchy after my daughter’s birth, and I always used a drop of Coconut Oil to get rid of blemishes. It can be used as a Toner as well.

11. Castor Essential Oil

It reduces acne, fights aging and keeps your skin hydrated. It is also good for skin whitening. Apart from all these benefits, Castor Oil is also effective in reducing pigments and removing oil present inside open pores. This oil can be used by people with normal skin.

Apart from these oils, I would also like to share one tip. If mosquitoes have created a menace, use neem oil or Eucalyptus Oil at night on face, hands and other exposed parts of the body. This will repel mosquitoes away. Mosquitoes are allergic to strong smells. Using these oils comes with its own set of conditions.

Caution While Using Oils:

  • Do not use oils on your face if your skin is extremely oily.
  • Do not use oils if skin reacts to the application.
  • Oils should preferably used at night. Ensure that you clean your face before apply oil.
  • Do not expose yourself to heat. Or get indulged in any activity which leads to sweating. The ingredients present in most of the oils are extremely delicate and would not be able to withstand heat.

I have tried to use mention essential oils for skin whitening which are available easily in the market. If you are unable to find anything in the market, always bank upon online shopping portals. They have some best beauty products at affordable rates. If you are really sure about oil, you can also add a drop or two in any of the face packs. For example, Sandalwood Oil, added to gram flour and Rose Water is my ultimate soul saver.

Oils are herbal and usually don’t leave any side effects. Most of the skin ailments arise either out of lack of oil or excess of oil. Once you are able to figure out the right oil for your skin type, your beauty regime would always be free of hassles.

  • I swear by oils for my skin! My favorites are tea tree, almond and olive! Great post <3

  • Lavender essential oil has many benefits including relaxing and clarifying skin!

  • I use a drop or two of almond or other essential oils, massage it well and then after 5-7 minutes or max 10 minutes blot away excess with a single ply tissue. Helps with my oily skin and I have not faced no clogged pore or breakout issue with any sort of oil.

  • Hey thanks a lot @isheeta, @Mariyam, @Anurima & @Perkymegs.. will try your tips and thanks for the encouraging words!

  • Almond, olive and coconut are the only ones I have tried till now and Olive is my favourite :)

  • Wow! I just found this information while I was searching skin whitening oil. I have been applying Sudyuti Skin Whitening Oil on my face that produces very good result but I'll try These remedies for Sure hoping for the good result.

  • I have tried soulflower lavender essential oil nd it makes my skin more worse.. I have used it for my acne marks but within 2 days it makes my marks worse nd causes unusual redness.i hv studied so much good about lavender oil but I think it doesn't work fir my skin.my skin is unusually super sensitive so plz tell me some good essential oil for acne marks plz . These marks has worsen my face nd my life too...plz tell me some oil which do not have any side effects on sensitive skin..I have tried tea tree oil too but it also didn't work for me.so plz tell me something I need ur suggestion badly plz reply....

    • Try rosehip oil alone. It is oil balancing. Evens skin tone, reduces scars. You must use every day for scars. I had a bad scar from chicken pox which was over ten years old. I used rosehip oil 3 times a day for approximately 6 months and it is gone.
I also recommend using pure natural rosewater as a skin toner for the face twice daily before using the rosehip oil as a moisturiser. If you're skin is sensitive try putting a handful of rolled oats tied up in a clean piece of cheese cloth (or even a new chux type dishcloth, I just buy the cheap brand) run it under cool water till you can see the milky liquid squeezing out and gently cleanse the face with this. Rinse after to clean and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days, using twice daily as your facial cleanser. It is very soothing, also good for rashes and washing babies skin.

    • Almond oil nd castor oil and jojoba oil works best for sensitive skin.nd makes the skin fair too... But I mix em in my lotion...a baby lotion tho..

  • Have you had an issues with coconut oil clogging your drain? I would love to use it as shaving cream, but I’m picturing bad things happening when the oil hardens down my pipes!
