NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Addis Ababa Review
I like how NYX has taken it upon itself to improve our geography. Before this Soft Matte Lip Cream, I never knew that Addis Ababa and Antwerp are actually cities. Go NYX! Now only if somebody had named lipstick shades after Trigonometry formulas I would have aced those math exams. You heard that periodic table song in that new AIB Alia Bhatt video? I wish we had it back then! Today’s review and swatches are on my dearest and HG bright pink lipstick called Addis Ababa.
NYX Claims: It is not lipstick nor is it gloss. It’s like nothing you have experienced before. It’s lipstick cream that goes on silky but looks soft matte. More info on it HERE
NYX Addis Ababa is a blue based fuchsia pink which is so me! These bright blue pink shades totally brighten up my face. Its such a colour that would suit every Indian skin tone. If neon pinks are not your thing and make you look oompa loompa then try this one.
Although I’m not sure if the pigmentation is a boon or bane. Its not very pigmented so you need to build up the intensity. At the same time it gives you better control over how it looks on your lips. But whatever I love it!
The texture is ooh so amazing. Goes on lips like whipped cream and dries to a totally matte finish. Easy to apply although you need well exfoliated lips to wear this. And some precaution while layering because it might end up patchy if you don’t keep the layers thin and uniform. I hope I am making sense.
It never dries up my lips which is quite strange for a matte lipstick. The staying power is awesome too..lasts for 7-8 hours. And it doesn’t have the cough syrup smell like Xtreme Lip Cream and Tinted Lip Spa. Overall I’m in love with this little tube.
Swatches in natural light
And here is how it looks on me. The pic on the left is weird I know. I had some eye swelling going on that day. Yep we don’t cancel plans come what may!
I also wore it in my Goa look which fetched me quite a lot of compliments. Infact its the only colour I’m wearing here
Pros of NYX Addis Ababa Soft Matte Lip Cream:
- Hot pink shade that instantly perks me up
- Super matte finish which I adore
- Easy to apply and never dries out my lips
- Stays on for hours and hours with meals in between
- Totally travel friendly packaging
Cons of NYX Addis Ababa Soft Matte Lip Cream:
- Pigmentation. You need to layer it a couple of times to make it totally opaque which ism’t an easy task given its matte formula
VNA Rating: 4.5/5
Availability: Get it internationally if you can. Slightly expensive in India and almost always OOS. I got mine from Sephora Gurgaon
So is it for you? NYX Addis Ababa Soft Matte Lip Cream is a bright blue based pink which suits Indian skin tones quite well. The texture, staying power, finish, shade..everything is par excellence. So its not surprising that its my HG pink lipstick now. I’m planning to get a few more shades from the range.
