Review, Swatches, Price, Dupes of MAC Syrup Lustre lipstick
Whenever I think of splurging on a good lipstick, MAC is one of the first names that come to my mind. I have always loved MAC lipsticks and I make sure I do my full research by reading a ton of reviews online on Indian beauty blogs as to what are cult favorites or what lipsticks are trending at the moment. Few months back when I wanted to buy a MAC lipstick, as usual, I brought out my MAC wishlist that I keep updating from time to time and the name on top of the list was MAC Syrup Lustre finish lipstick which I will review and swatch today. Obviously, I had to go for it. So without even thinking twice, I bought it.
MAC syrup has established a cult status for itself and being such a cool mauve, almost neutral kind of a shade, it makes for a perfect everyday wear lipstick. Read on to know how it actually fared for me.
Shade: MAC describes Syrup as a Cloudy Pink lip color. It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful cloudy pink lipstick, MAC! Syrup is a cool-toned cloudy pink that looks almost like Mauve. The thing about mauve lipsticks is that if you’re warm-toned (like me), they really complement your skin tone and make you look fairer. Also, another great fact about mauve or purple-toned lipsticks is that they give an illusion of whiter teeth. So obviously when all these things came into my notice, I immediately put this lipstick on top of My MAC lipsticks wishlist and bought it as soon as got the chance to buy something from MAC.
Because Syrup is a cool toned Mauve shade or as MAC like to call it, a Cloudy pink, I think it will look absolutely gorgeous on most Indian skin tones. For me it is a MLBB lipstick shade and I just can’t stop wearing Syrup lipstick ever since I bought it. It goes with all kinds of eye-makeup and pretty much every color of clothing too. Such a versatile shade. This mac lipstick is not only for days when I want fuss-free, no-makeup makeup look, but also when I want to go for a heavy-duty smokey eye look but want to cut down on the bright lipstick. This syrup shade is not season-specific either like those bright corals or the gothic oxbloods.
Because mac syrup is such a basic, mauve-pink color, I can wear pretty much all year around. Now I love a bright red lip or bold oxblood lip once in a while but let’s all be real, I can’t get away with wearing a red lip every day, no matter what. This is where Syrup lustre gets extra brownie points from me because it is such a wearable color, if I have to wear this lipstick everyday for the rest of my life, I’ll do so gladly.
Syrup has a lustre finish which is by far my favorite of all MAC finishes. Lustre lipsticks by MAC come with a slight sheen in them. They have the best formula ever. Lustre luipsticks are lightweight and feel very moisturizing on the lips. Syrup is also lightweight, very moisturizing, creamy lipstick that does not dry out the lips. In fact it has a glossy texture but not overly glossy kinds.
MAC Syrup when worn on its own lasts for around 3 hours which is okay with me as I don’t mind reapplying my lipsticks but when worn over a lip pencil, it easily lasts for 4.5+ hours. No matter how much I reapply this mac lipstick, it does appear to be cakey on the lips. It does not have a sticky texture. All mac lipsticks have a vanilla scent to them that I absolutely love and so does this one. If I have to really recommend one MAC lipstick to a girl who’s about to buy her first MAC, Syrup would be the one I’d suggest.
Pros of Mac Syrup Lustre lipstick:
- It is a part of MAC permanent line and is almost always easily available at stores. So if you run out of one, you can easily go and purchase another.
- Syrup is a great everyday wear shade. It is MLBB shade for me.
- One shade that will suit most skin tones
- It is a cool toned mauve color with a glossiness to it.
- Syrup has a lustre finish. I love all MAC lustre finish lipsticks. They are lightweight and moisturizing.
- Because this is a very moisturizing lipstivk, I don’t have to worry about reapplying a lip balm every one hour (like I do with most of my other lipsticks)
- I love the vanilla scent
Cons of MAC Syrup Lustre lipstick:
- The price! Only and only the price. The rate at which MAC is hiking the prices, soon it’s going to cost equal to a YSL Rouge Volupte if not more.
- Staying power is comparatively low.
Price in India: Rs.1450 after the price hike (Ouch!)
VNA RATING: 4.25/5
Dupes: Essence Natural Beauty, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Sassy
Recommendation: I recommend everyone to own at least one MAC Syrup lipstick in their lifetime. You won’t be disappointed. Hehehe!
