Hey you guys! So given that everyone’s going gaga over the new L’oreal Cannes makeup 2015 , i’ll review and swatch, what is now, my favorite gel eyeliner of all time (and that includes my clinique one) , the L’oreal Superliner Gel Intenza in the shade sapphire blue. Gel eyeliners are a love-hate thing with me, if they work, they’re better than any other kind of eyeliner out there, and if they tug and pull at the skin and are terribly dry, they’re the spawn of satan . And even though i’m fairly clumsy with eyeliners after almost a decade of putting them on, this worked surprizingly well with me. So what did i think of the loreal gel liner?
Shades Available: Diamond Black, Profound Black, Royal Blue, Sapphire Blue, Chic Brown
Price : It retails at Rs.875 . As it is with l’oreal paris more often than not, the price point is a little bit towards the higher end of the drugstore range, but hey! the quality is unparalelled.
Packaging : Now with L’oreal, a girl gets spoilt, because the packaging is never flimsy, and almost always is a material version of class, and this is no exception. The gel intenza comes in a glass pot , with a gold lid and has a brush for application included with the set. It looks great, it’s functional, and thankfully this isn’t as measly of a quantity as some of the lakme absolute ones.
Pigmentation : The gel eyeliner in Sapphire blue is a deeper version of the colour Royal Blue (reviewed by surabhi here ) , and has some shimmer milled into it. It’s a much less vibrant, less stark , more grown-up version of that shade. The pigmentation of loreal Sapphire Blue is intense, though not completely opaque, with the first swipe, but if you’re a fan of liquid liners, you might want to build it up to get the opacity you’re used to . It looks and swatches out almost black with a blue overspray, but once it sets, it looks a lot more on the Navy-side.
Consistency : By far, this is the best consistency in gel eyeliners i have used so far (and we’re dealing with a liner-addict here) . It’s almost a velvety cream , and less of that gel that tends to tug at your skin. Super liner gel intenza glides on easily , which is always a plus since gel eyeliners aren’t always the easiest to work with, and has a decent amount of time for which you can tweak it and work over it before it sets. I do think that because of the texture and consistency, you might want to use a bit of stick concealer (they tend to be a little drier) if you have extremely oily lids , but even if you don’t ,if it doesn’t mess up before it sets, it’s on for good.
The brush : The brush that it comes with is a straight up (no fancy slanted tips) , slightly domed, slightly-stiff but still free enough to work with, eyeliner brush . It works well for going in with a thicker line as it is, but you could always set it flat once it has some product in it to bind the bristles that way and use it side-ways to create a thin line .
Longevity of L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gel Intenza Sapphire Blue:
The longest i’ve worn it is a work day, and it stayed put, but towards over 12 hours (and yes i’m one of those people that wear eyeliner for over 12 hours almost everyday), it tends to get very slightly flackey , but no sane person would ever really wear eyeliner for 36 hours either way. So the longevity is Very impressive , on a similar note, it is water resistant (not entirely water-proof), but not exactly as great as is claimed (my guess is it will stay on, but it might get slightly patchy or flackey towards the end) .
What i don’t love about L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Gel Intenza Sapphire Blue:
- The price point. Hello ? 875 bucks for a tiny pot of eyeliner? Now , i do realise gel eyeliners are set at a normally higher price, but this is a little bit off for my liking. But then again, i would still cough up the dough and buy it in another colour because it’s an unbelievable product.
- The brush is great and everything, but maybe if they threw in a slightly skinnier one instead, a lot of people would have preferred it because of the versatality of being able to go in with both a skinny line, and being able to build up to a striking, bold, thick line.

Verdict? It’s amazing. That’s all there is. The quality, the quantity, the pigmentation, the longevity, the beautiful packaging, it’s well worth the price, and it’s what l’oreal almost never fails to deliver.
