Kryolan TV Paint Stick Foundation Review, Swatches, Application Tips
By Contributor: Harine
Foundation is the Holy Grail when it comes to makeup. Do you all agree to this statement? It could be any party or wedding, it is very important that our makeup is perfect and the first step to looking at our best is by using the perfect foundation. We need the right brand, right shade, right finish at the right price. Doesn’t it sound like the 4 Ps of marketing? Oh My God.. Now let us get down to business. Here is the review and swatches of Kryolan TV Paint Stick foundation. I had been eyeing this brand since my wedding because my MUA had used Kryolan foundation on me & the photos turned out really well. She had used a Kryolan foundation palette & mixed certain colors to perfectly suit my skin tone. I was sure I wouldn’t find time for that since I am working and hence I started
looking out for an easy to use foundation from Kryolan. I wanted a foundation which would gel well with my skin and not look cakey. My internet research finally helped me narrow down to TV Paint Stick and I decided that it would be best to choose the shade at the shop directly.
Kryolan claims: Successfully proven cream make-up in stick form. The special base of TV Paint Stick allows gentle make-up application that provides effective covering at the same time. The Kryolan assortment of more than 250 color nuances for selection is truly extraordinary – which makes this preparation indispensable for stage, film, TV, video work and more.
My Skin type: Fair with yellow undertones, oily T Zone, few acne scars and pores on cheeks.
I went to an exclusive Kryolan showroom in Ramee Mall, Chennai. It is always advisable to try out foundation on your jawline rather than your wrist as it is the best way to find the right shade. They did not have testers for many shades but the SA told me that their color range is same across their face products & she tried the shade FS 42 from Supra color range. Always buy a foundation after testing it on your skin for atleast an hour so that you will know whether it wears off or oxidizes or makes your face an oil factory. Finally after an hour of shopping in the mall, I took some snaps across different lighting which turned out good and hence I decided to buy the Kryolan TV Paint stick in the shade FS 42.
Texture & Coverage: It is a cream based foundation in a stick form which prevents it from getting greasy or messy in the tube. The coverage can go from medium to high coverage depending on the amount of product used. It eliminates the use of a separate concealer as well. It smells like a milder version of lacto calamine which is definitely pleasant.
Application technique & Finish: Moisturize your face in case it’s dry, and start from the centre of your face & work in smaller portions. Dab on the product directly from the tube & use a wet sponge to blend it nicely. Apply another layer if desired.
I used Vega Foundation Brush & sprayed some Face Mist onto the bristles & used it for blending the foundation. You can also add a drop of water to the brush if you prefer brush over sponge. Finish with a pressed powder. For oily skin instead of a moisturizer use a primer.
Packaging & Product Details: It comes in a twist up grey colored tube packaging which looks more like a glue stick and not a foundation. When other brands are giving you more colorful, attractive packaging this might look slightly “Out of the Vanity Box”. Unlike liquid foundations which can clog the dispenser/nozzle if not wiped clean, this does not have such problems because of its sleek packaging. The shade is printed at the bottom with the Logo & the name on the side of the tube. There is 25 gms of the product and after several usages, I have realized that we need only very little for each application. This coupled with a shelf life of 4 years would ensure a good value for money product which would last long.
The finish is dewy & can get a bit shiny after about 2 to 3 hours if your skin is oily. It gives high coverage even with a single layer application, photographs beautifully and did not wear off even after 4 – 5 hours. It does clog the pores which is why most of the reviewers have warned that it can cause your skin to breakout & have advised to use this product only for special occasions. After makeup removal, I applied some aloevera gel so that my skin does not break out & fortunately it hasn’t.
Pros of Kryolan TV Paint Stick:
A wide range of shades to choose from.
Photographs well.
Travel friendly.
Very affordable.
Provides heavy coverage, there is no need for a separate concealer.
Cons of Kryolan TV Paint Stick:
Slightly difficult to blend.
Mixing 2 shades could be slightly difficult unlike liquid foundations.
Dull packaging.
When you dab the product on your face directly, there are chances that minute facial hairs can stick on it & look clumsy.
Available only in Kryolan stores & some wholesale suppliers.
Price: Rs.800
VNA Rating: 4/5
To sum up: Kryolan TV Paint Stick is a true value for money foundation, best suited for weddings & parties. I would like to rate it 4/5 since blending the foundation can be an arduous task. It comes in a lot of shades so its better that you get your shade matched at the Kryolan store itself. It comes in a twist up stick packaging and the finish is creamy.
