Kryolan Translucent Powder TL14 Review and Swatches

Blessed are those who can wear makeup for hours without any fear of their makeup budging or melting! For an oily skinned girl like me, it has always been a task to keep my makeup in place and my face shine-free for a few hours at least! It is during those times when compact and loose powders come to our rescue. For my first ever review on VNA, I have chosen a translucent powder from the well known brand Kryolan. Here, Iwould also like to thank Anshita for providing me with space and an opportunity to be a part of the VNA team!
Kryolan Claims:Translucent Powder is a classical powder preparation characterized by its fineness and high degree of color neutrality.Translucent Powder contains a large share of modified rice starch, unique in its specification. It assures great absorption power and enhances the durability of make-up on the skin. Translucent Powder is outstandingly suited for all professional applications. The fine powder particles produce a comfortable, pleasant wearing feeling.
My Review:
I am pretty sure the brand Kryolan needs no introduction here. Kryolan has been into the makeup industry for more than three generations and is well known for making quality products especially for theatres and films. So another winner amongst the array of Kryolan products is the Kryolan Translucent Powder.
I am glad that the SA at the Mumbai Kryolan store gave me a perfect match. I got shade TL14 for myself, a pretty close match for my dusky skin tone! I believe there a total 14 shades in this range so most of us can find a good match. Since the powder is translucent, it does not impart any color to the face. It goes on really sheer but at the same time it brightens the face as well.
I use this powder with my Vega powder brush to set my foundation and under eye concealer. On lazy days, I just use this powder over my BB cream or even on bare skin. It instantly takes away all the shine off my face leaving my skin smooth and matte! My makeup looks flawless and it stays in place for a longer duration. And no made up look at all!!
Texture: Kryolan Translucent Powder is very finely milled and ultra smooth to touch. It has that same silky feeling like that of corn starch. And the best part – it is absolutely sans any shimmer particles (not even the nano-est micro shimmer!)
If you notice, talc is listed as the first ingredient here. So the ‘oil absorption’ and ‘shine control’ properties are basically due to the presence of talc. Also, titanium oxide has been listed as an ingredient but there is no mention of any SPF factor. (Since titanium oxide is generally used in sunscreens for providing sun protection)
Packaging: The biggest hitch with this product is the packaging. It comes round opaque silver plastic tub enclosed in an outer dark blue carton box. You need to pull up the lid to open the tub (unlike the screw caps where you turn around the lid to open it). There is an inner transparent lid with many holes over it to dispense the product. Now as you open the outer lid, you’ll find the powder spilled all over! Because of its very fine texture the powder just flies around even with the slightest sifting and things turn messy! *not happening* I guess this is a common problem with most of the loose powders out there.
Talking about the oil control factor, since it is winters it did help my face to stay oil-free for 2-3 hours after which I needed to blot my T-zone. In humid weather, the wear time may reduce a bit. I would also like to mention about the sizes available. Kryolan Translucent Powder is available in 20g, 60g and 500g tubs. So you can buy a smaller tub for trying it out the first time.

The Downside of Kryolan Translucent Powder:
- Undoubtedly the packaging!!
- Not at all travel friendly!
- Oil control factor could have been more. (Greedy me!)

This seems like a no no for flash photography, with the talc and titanium dioxide. All these kryolan reviews on vna have piqued my interest in the brand :)
