Review, Swatches, Price, Buy Online Essence Eyebrow Stylist Set in shade 01 Natural Brunette
By Contributor: Vaidehee
Hey you guys! So for a while now, i’ve been doing a series of posts on some really great essence products that i got to try, and so far, everything has been sheer perfection, there were a few cons to everything , but the pros have out weighed them so far, especially given the drugstore price point. On that note, this post is going to be a review, swatches and an overview of the essence brow stylist kit in shade Natural Brunette, which comes with 3 stencils , a brow brush, and two brow shadows in complimentary colours . (Their entire range also has brow pencils, and brow setting gel, which i’ve already reviewed)
Essence Claims: This complete kit is ideal for styling your eyebrows. It contains two eyebrow powders, an applicator and three templates for perfect shape in an instant! Advice: This eyebrow set contains: 3 different eyebrow stencils, 2 eyebrow shadows, 1 brush perfect eyebrows within seconds! Select required stencil, place on the eyebrow and hold firmly at the edges. Apply eyebrow shadow with the brush.
Shades Available: 01 Natural Brunette, 02 Natural Blonde
My Review of Essence Brow Stylist Set:
Price : The brow kit retails at Rs.299, which given the entirety of the product, is very affordable.
Packaging: It’s a little travel set, which comes in a plastic capsule which uncaps and slides over with the contents. The plastic is a little bit flimsy, and the shadows are set in a very flimsy thin plastic film. zero points for the packaging here! It’s not quick or convenient , and not at all sturdy. I wish they’d had the eye shadows in the same plastic as the casing capsule, and it instead had a flip open case. That would have made it a lot more convenient.
The stencils: There are a total of 3 stencils in the brow kit case, a ” small-brow “, a “regular brow” and an “arched brow” . The shapes are obviously coherent with the names. however, i happen to have thicker brows, that don’t fit into any of these stencils so shaping my entire brows with the stencils , the way they are right now, is not really going to happen. In the essence brow kit’s defense, i like to keep my brows un-naturally thick. The eyebrow stencils would work for most people, with the exception of a few oddities .
The arch is extreme on the third stencil though, and the smaller stencil isn’t really arched that smoothly, so the goldy-locks combination here is the regular brow.
The brush: The brush for application of the shadows is something that i’d normally lose. It’s un-naturally tiny, but to my surprise, it works really well with getting detailed brows (I really can’t work that well with the regular angled brushes, the handles are way too long !) The bristles are synthetic, and the tip is arched. It’s not a good quality brush, but it gets the job done, and works better than i thought it would.
The shadows: With brow shadows, i like to have them not terribly pigmented, and be a little build able and powdery so it doesn’t look too plain and flat. The eye shadows come in 2 shades, one is lighter and one is darker, so you can either mix and match, or use either one as you deem fit .
I do have brown hair, so i use brown shadows for my eyebrows, and for the initial portion of my brows, a darker shade looks a little too made-up, so the lighter grey-brown shade works really well .
Pigmentation: The lighter shade in the brow kit is a bit grey, a cool toned ash-brown. And a darker shade is a brown with a bit of purple and grey worked into the pigmentation. So for the brows, it’s pretty good news that they aren’t red-toned, because those can look very false and usually don’t work as well with brown and black hair colours.
Texture and longevity: The texture for the brow shadows is powdery, with a lot of talc so it doesn’t look too made up . Also, the colours do tend to stain on swatching, they stay on once they’re on. Which make them terrible eye shadows, but great for filling in eyebrows.
I’ve used the essence kit here. The stark contrasting , heavily filled in brows are simply so they show up on camera right.
What i love about Essence Eyebrow Stylist Set:
- The shadows work well for your eyebrows.
- The price is really affordable, especially given that you get to try a bunch of the contents.
- The brush, which, surprisingly works pretty well (other than the size-issue).
What i don’t love about Essence Eyebrow Stylist Set:
- The packaging . It could have been way more functional.
- The brush, i wish the handle was slightly longer. It works, but it could have been a little better.
- The fact that the stencils don’t work for my ginormous brows , but that’s really a personal error.
- You need to kick up quite a bit of pigment to cover entire bald spots . They work great for filling in your brows, but are terrible with drawing on certain portions. But truth be told, they’re not meant for that very purpose, and not everyone has terrible hair-less portions through their eyebrows from over-plucking, so it’s not necessarily a con .

VERDICT: It’s a great starter brow kit, but if you happen to own a ton of brow products already, or are used to high-end pencil fillers, it’s not going to please you. Highly recommended as a starter, but not as a replacement. As for me, i do love it, but i still need to use a pencil to fill in my one bald spot in addition to the kit.
