By Contributor: Surabhi
Last night I was watching TV, and wondering how in hell do American celebrities look super smart even when out for a casual stroll with their dog. They certainly look like they don’t have any makeup on, but their lips look super pretty. If only I could get my hands on a lip gloss, which doesn’t deliver too much colour, but transforms into a glossy, nude shade- perfect for everyday wear. And then I remembered about my Lakme Absolute Gloss Stylist in Rust Crush, which is exactly that. How had I ever forgotten about this lip-love of mine? Anyhow, this is what I’ll review and swatch today, so keep reading to know more about the Lakme lip gloss.

My Review of Lakme Lip Gloss:
Have you ever seen a Lip-gloss which looks like Orangish-pink in its bottle, swatches as a glossy bright peach, and upon application, results into a nude, glossy shade? Well that’s LAKME Gloss Stylist in Rust Crush for you, which is a totally unique shade. Don’t get fooled by how the colour Rust Crush looks in the tube, for once you put it on, it doesn’t look anything like that. However, the glossy finish is impeccable & this pairs amazingly well with smokey eyes- so I’m definitely not complaining.
Texture: Oh, the texture of this lakme absolute lip gloss is absolutely dreamy. It literally goes on super-smoothly and applies in an even manner. But your lips must be smooth to start with. Which means that if you have chapped lips, you must exfoliate before applying Lakme Rust Crush. The reason behind such stern statements is that this shade has a tendency to get patchy and settle into thick lines; hence if you’d start on chapped lips- that would definitely not end up pretty.
Pigmentation: The pigmentation is fine, and this lip-gloss doesn’t actually deliver a whole lot of colour in one swipe. I don’t think this product is expected to give full coverage, so it transfers some amount of glossy colour, which can definitely be built up, if you’d like more colour. If your lips were pigmented, you’d certainly need more swipes to cover it all up. However, even after a couple of swipes- the shade doesn’t transform as dark as it looks in the tube, and remains lighter comparatively.
Longevity: The longevity of this coral peach lip gloss is quite good. This definitely lasts between meals & waters and doesn’t really transfer that easily. Rust Crush lasts for a good 4 hours, and slowly fades away, leaving my lips beautifully moisturized, which is my favourite part about this lip-gloss.
Packaging: It comes in standard glass packaging, which is a little smaller as compared to the usual lip glosses. This shiny steel grey screw on lip has the small, sponge tip brush applicator attached to it, which has the perfect shape for covering my lips. The tiny tip of the brush allows for easy application on the corners of the lips. Overall the compact and cute packaging definitely makes this products travel friendly & this can easily be carried around everywhere.
Good-points of Lakme Absolute Gloss Stylist Rust Crush:
- The formulation is very lightweight & moisturizing.
- Doesn’t feel sticky at all, and has an easy application, on a smooth surface.
- Beautiful nude, glossy shade, which is exactly what, I’d pair with smokey eyes.
- The formulation doesn’t bleed at all, and even after fading away, this leaves my lips moisturized.
- Decent longevity, and easily lasts 4 hours.
Not-so-good-points of Lakme Absolute Gloss Stylist Rust Crush:
- For Rs. 700, some may find this a little expensive.
- Application is a little difficult, as this tends to settle into thick lines
- The colour pay-off is much lighter than the shade in the tube, and pigmented lips would need more swipes for a decent coverage.
- If you have chapped lips, you must exfoliate before application. This lip-gloss would merely highlight those areas, if you do not start on a smooth area.
- Not everyone can carry this shade. This shade will definitely wash out the darker skin-tones. However, if your complexion were around the shade of MAC NC42 or lighter, then this would be the perfect glossy nude lipstick for you. Yay!

In a nut-shell: For me, Rust Crush is an amazing shade, which looks just out of this world when paired with smokey eyes. Whether I’m going for blue smokey eyes, or even a simple everyday look when I do not wish to add too much colour on my lips- this has to be my go-to lippie. However, for darker skin tones, this would probably not be a good option, and wash them out. But if that’s not the case for you- then this is a lovely, supremely moisturizing everyday lip-gloss. I totally swear by this one and it’s always in my makeup pouch, for its handy design makes it very compact to be carried around everywhere.
