Review, How to Use, Price, Buy Online Nutrova Advanced Nutraceuticals Collagen + Antioxidants for Healthy Skin

By Contributor: Vaidehee

Hey you guys! So a while ago, i got the nutrova antioxidants and collagen+ range of supplements , and today i’ll be reviewing this healthy skin supplement , and not to give out spoilers, but i really do quite like the Nutrova skin supplement, but as always, conditions applied. What i have interpreted in general from the anti-ageing products that my mother has worked with since she was 30, and the products i’ve incorporated into my routine, is that they cannot necessarily  delay ageing drastically, but they do tend to help you age more gracefully.

Nutrova Claims : Nutrova Collagen+Antioxidant is a unique blend of collagen peptides and natural antioxidants from tomatoes, green tea and grapes designed to support healthy skin.

  • Collagen peptides help your body produce fresh collagen, an essential protein required for firm, healthy skin.

  • Nutrova’s Natural Antioxidant Complex contains a proprietary blend of natural antioxidants that help protect your skin from damage caused by the sun and the environment which lead to skin aging.

My Review of Nutrova Skin Supplements in Cranberry Flavour:

Price: The entire pack of 30 sachets , a month’s worth i.e, are available on their site for Rs.2750. OUCH! that’s a bit of a pinch in the old pocket! However, they are supplements, and i personally wouldn’t mind paying for supplements.

Packaging : They come in one-time-use plastic sachets , all neatly packaged, with really appealing clean-cut graphics.

Wait, how do you use Nutrova Collagen + Antioxidants again ?

All you do, is mix it in with water, and gulp it down. Not really rocket science here !  Also, it tastes like cranberries , and not unappealing like a few of the supplement drinks i’ve tried. (Seriously, is it that hard to get the taste right like the Nutrova guys did?) .

The Ingredients and my take on them :  A little warning here, Lots of bio-lingo, but i did try to break it down quite a bit.

The active ingredients in the Nutrova product are mainly  :

Collagen Peptides :

Collagen peptides the building blocks of collagen, make it easier for your body to replace damaged collagen with healthy collagen.  This ensures that your skin stays firm and that damage is quickly repaired.

Not really much to say here, is there? Collagen peptides, make up collagen, this has the building blocks packed into it.  I did scan over a study that supports that oral consumption of collagen supplements , when utilized right, do help with skin hydration, roughness levels, and elasticity.

NATURAL TOMATO LYCOPENE:

Lycopene is an antioxidant found in tomatoes, responsible for their red colour. Lycopene has been shown to protect against damage caused by the UV rays of the sun by giving your skin an internal sun protection factor. It helps prevent photoaging – the formation of wrinkles and blemishes due to UV radiation.

What i think :

Alright, so being the geek that i am, i read up on lycopene and i found a couple of studies that supported that lycopene (and other carotenoids ) , did infact provide photo-protection.  So all of that talk about reducing sun damage, improving conditions correlating to the roughness of your skin and preventing wrinkles? guess what ? Top it off with a sunscreen and it’s all works.

GREEN TEA EXTRACT:

Green tea is rich in the EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate), an antioxidant that fights free radical damage. Now, i’m not terribly good with this stuff, but all in all, antioxidants are supposed help with oxidation damage , just as claimed.

What i think:

Another little geek note, look up EGCGs and you’ll find a few articles supporting that they do infact enhance the production of interleukin-12, which plays a role in DNA repair, and can help in preventing skin cancer. Also, EGCG works as a sun-damage protectant, by absorbing free radicals, and reducing inflammation .

To me, it Sounds promising so far.

GRAPE SEED EXTRACT:

Grapes contain a family of antioxidants known as OPC (Oligome Proanthocyanidins). OPCs are not only effective antioxidants (they’re about 20-50 times more effective than Vitamin E and Vitamin C) , basic research has shown that they help maintain healthy collagen.

What i think :

So, after a few rounds around google, here’s what i’ve found :  OPCs actually help rebuild healthy collagen and repair unhealthy collagen and keeps it from turning brittle and sagging. In addition, they inhibit the enzymes: collagenase and elastase which can destroy healthy tissue.  All in all, it works in collagen’s favour.

What else to look for in collagen supplements ?

Also, on that note, here’s something else you might want to look for with collagen supplements and drinks , Bioavailability.

Bioavailability is what determines the efficacy of any nutrient you take in. The problem with collagen molecules is that they are huge, so unless they’ve been hydrolyzed, they are way too big to be absorbed when ingested, so they don’t make it upto the dermis. Thankfully, Nutrova and most other collagen drinks do incorporate hydrolyzed collagen , which basically makes it easier for it to re-assosiate into collagen , and do the job it’s supposed to, i.e hollywood skin . And another little mention here would be that the product uses natural tomato lycopene, and not the synthetic version that’s featured in similar products, and as it turns out,the natural kind has a lot more bioavailability.

So, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Taurine, Lycopene, Green tea extract, Grape seed extract, and collagen peptides, all sound promising to me, someone building a medical-background.

Do I Think Nutrova Collagen+Antioxidants Supplements Really Work?

I went over a few scholary articles and studies, supporting lycopene’s role in helping with the roughness of skin, preventing sun damage,  and it’s anti-oxidant properties,  and on how OPCs and EGCGs help with rebuilding and repairing collagen , and work in favour of your skin’s elasticity. (All these, Nutrova packs in plenty) And there are a few other studies that do give positive reviews for oral collagen supplements.

Personally, I have been trying it out for a month, and i’ve seen some improvement in my skin. It feels better, in general. It looks, in the best way i can describe it, healthy. It’s not arid dry any more, and a few of my acne spots and scars have started regressing quicker than they normally tend to.

As for skin elasticity, i can’t tell a major change right now, but my laugh lines are getting slightly better, and there isn’t as much dullness as there was with my complexion.

It won’t be reverse-ageing you, it’s not a miracle portion, but it does work and is packed with some really great ingredients, that from what i can interpret, are effective.

What i don’t love about Nutrova Collagen+Antioxidants Supplements:

  • The price point is a little bit high at around 90 bucks a sachet.
  • There is some consistency needed here, and around two to three weeks time, to see any results.

Verdict? It may be a bit heavy on the pocket, but long term, it’s an investement worth making, and as for me? i’m placing another refill order soon enough.  Again, a reminder, not a miracle portion, ageing is something we’ll all have to learn to embrace, you know what they say about women and wine, but give it enough time, and pair it with an overall healthy lifestyle, and it works just fine! As much as i tend to criticize and scrutinize the ingredients with a few of my reviews, i do think , other than the overzealous claims as with most anti-ageing products, this is one thing i do consider to be worth incorporating long term in my regimen.

  1. Warning for women who have fibroids or menopausal symptoms.. my mother who is about 54 recently had heavy periods, her skin became quite pale and withered.. I read about nutruva and it’s reviews, so decided to buy one for her. She had for good twenty days but suddenly she started having patches around her soft parts like things, back side of her arms. Inside the patch her skin became rough and scalylike a fish.
She stopped taking nutrova and had neem juice, that is when the patches started reducing. I touched the skin myself.
So may be it is a great product but please do refer to a physician. Just wanted to warn.
