I know I have been MIA for quite sometime now. In the meanwhile I took a small vacation for my birthday. Yeap ! A recently gone birthday means lots of new presents and some new make up (grinning like a Cheshire cat) which I cant wait to review for all you guys. I am making a comeback today with a review and swatch of a new lipstick from Colorbar called Deep Matte Lip Cream in shade Deep Coco. I wasn’t very confident about it initially for two reasons: I am not a matte lip colour kind of person. I find that it dries out my lips and clings onto my lips in patches. Secondly, I am not a fan of the colour brown specially when it comes to applying it on my face.
Colorbar Claims: The Evolution of Matte Lipcolor : An Ultra Silky, virtually weightless texture that unveils unexpected mousy finish with impeccable high pigmentation colour for a high coverage effect. An innovative combination of ingredients gives the formula special gliding consistency to coat lips with deep colors that have a matte, yet intensely bright effect.
Shades Available: 001 Deep red, 002 Deep Lily, 003 Deep Rose, 004 Deep Earth, 005 Deep Coco, 006 Deep Rust, 007 Deep Pink, 008 Deep Blush, 009 Deep Peach, 010 Deep Rouge
My Review of Colorbar Lip Creme:
Product & Packaging: The lip creme comes in a Transparent plastic Chubby Stick Tube packaging with a Silver Screw Cap. The base of the stick consists of the Shade Details printed on a silver sticker. The packaging in itself is quite usual and bulky as far as its attractiveness is concerned. The old school packaging is strout and sturdy but it could have been sleeker and more aesthetic.
As you unscrew the Silver cap, attached to it is a long applicator wand with a doe foot sp onge at the end which scoops up enough amount of colour for a single application. The colorbar lip cream comes enclosed in an outer silver cardboard packaging but what is surprising is that there are no ingredients mentioned at all. The outer box as well as the Chubby Tube are devoid of any information about the ingredients of the product . The deep matte creme itself does not have a strong fragrance which is excellent for hypo allergic people like yours truly.
Texture: True to its claim the lip colour is a dream to apply and has an ultra silky smooth texture. Very buttery against the lips, it simply glides across and swipes true to colour. The colour pigmentation is quite high and a single swatch does the job pretty well. Now was I mentioned earlier, I am not a fan of Matte lipcolours primarily due to their drying phenomenon and how they cling to my lips in patches. I have used the much famous NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams and although NYX has some very versatile shades in those, I am not a fan of the formulation which after application completely parches my lips.
However, this deep lip creme by Colorbar is not even close to the dry formulation by NYX. Instead of feeling dry on my lips, the product feels hydrating and moisturizing which is quite a bit to say for a Matte product. Post application, the lipstick looks matte but it does not feel matte.
Colour and Suitability: Okay! So imagine a Dark Coloured Chocolate Mousse Soufflé ! Okay okay..this was just so you could understand the colour. Now, stop drooling! Colorbar Deep Coco is the darkest of all the 10 shades in this series and is a rich brown with slight undertones of Bricky Red. When swatched, it applies evenly onto the lips and due to excellent colour pay off, even a single swatch is enough to render true colour. The shade deep coco is extremely pigmented and works very well on people with pigmented lips rendering great coverage.
Personally, I am an NC25 in MAC Terminology with yellow undertones and hence I found that this colour did not go so well with my complexion. I believe this shade would do complete justice to Medium to Dusky Indian skin tones. As far as the Wear ability and Versatility of the colorbar matte creme is concerned, I believe it’s a very wearable lip colour and is perfect for office wear or almost any day time look. It would look good with minimal make up on the rest of your face though.
Durability: Now this is a tricky one. The average durability of this colorbar lip colour is about 3-4 hours after which it tends to get a little dull. I found that it does not survive meals and definite touch ups are required even after light meals. Once applied, it takes about 30 minutes to set which is long for a matte product but even after setting, it does transfer a lot onto glasses et all. Thank fully, the colour does not bleed at all however, considering that it’s a Matte product the longevity could have been considerably higher. The lip colour does not fade out in patches and is easy to wash off with just face wash too.
Availability: It is available on all modern outlets and can even be bought online from Amazon, Flipkart, etc

My Take: An interesting lipstick from Colorbar! Although in this era of sleek and stylish packaging, I was quite disappointed with the bulky chubby tube packaging, the product in itself is quite good. If you have normal to dry lips and are apprehensive of venturing towards Matte Lip colours, you must give this one a try. Its matte yet creamy texture does not settle into lines or cause havoc with respect to dryness. Instead.. it completely moisturizes your lips ! This particular colour does not go too well on my skin tone but the formula seems good enough for me to try another shade from this series. I believe I will be picking up Deep Rouge next!
