By Contributor: Vaidehee

Hey you guys! So a while ago, Moupee did a post on her 10 best enrich satin lipsticks, and on that same note, i have some exciting news! Lakme FINALLY revamped their packaging (and from what i could make out, their shade selection too has had a few minor tweaks) and they look better than ever! Long gone are the boring old bulky purple twist ups, that made identifying between the shades nearly impossible. Lakme lipsticks now come in packaging that’s coherent with their fashion week theme and their revamped image with the absolute range. The shade i’m reviewing and swatching in this post is a lovely, tending to neon, pink labelled Lakme Enrich Satin Lipcolor P166.

My Review:

Price : The satin enrich lipsticks retailed at Rs. 230 back in the day, and the newer versions apparently retail at Rs.260, still very reasonable for the product, but it might tick off a few people.

Packaging : Ah! The ghastly bulky packaging is finally not going to be re-issued, and they’ve upped their game with a sleeker version. The twist up is now a glossy silver, with a clear internally domed cap , with the sheer purpose of making identifying the shade simpler. Hallelujah! The tweaked out lakme logo and the range identifier are imprinted on the side of the cap now. All in all, and i’m sure there are no exceptions to opinions on this, the packaging looks way better. It’s slightly heavier than you’d expect, and is quite sturdy .

Fragrance : What they haven’t changed, is that old chemical based, sweet, citrus scent that the enrich satin lipcolor range has always had. If it bothered you then, it will bother you now.

Formulation : The lakme satin range always was slightly inconsistent with their formulation , and that unfortunately hasn’t changed. I’ll be reviewing two of their lipsticks (shade P166 in this post) , and they’re both formulated differently. P166 is quite creamy, goes on very smooth and thankfully doesn’t settle into my fine lines as bad as some of the other velvet mattes i’ve tried out, and the finish is, obviously enough, a satin, cream-sheen. Lakme enrich lipstick doesn’t dry out my lips, and isn’t notorious with bunching up either.

Shade : The shade P166 (i wish they’d come up with better names though, why can’t you call it barbie pink for those of us with a less than perfect memory? ) is a Bright, vibrant pink, with a very strong red undertone. It probably isn’t your everyday shade,  and with duskier skin tones, it will definately look very stark.  But if you can rock it, you go girl! Lakme p166 lacks the shimmer that some of the other shades seem to have formulated in, which to be honest, im thankful for! This colour is very in-you-face to begin with.

Longevity : The lasting power for this lakme lipcolor line wasn’t very impressive, the average 4 hour mark is where it tends to feather and fade out into a subtle tint, but with some of the shades that had a very very strong red undertone, once you blot off the colour, there is a prominent red tint , that has a very long wear-time. Beacuse of the formulation, the lipstick does tend to transfer and you don’t want to go overboard with it, since it will bleed out and feather. Also, with some of the creamier shades (yes, the consistency does vary along the line) , they will settle more prominently into your fine lines as they wear .

What i do love about Lakme Enrich Satin Lipstick P166:

  • The price is still very reasonable.
  • The fact that lakme came up with a bold bright pink.
  • The packaging! Hallelujah!
  • The fact that (exclusive to this perticular shade, because of the inconsistencies) it doesn’t settle into fine lines as much as a majority of the cream-based lipsticks out there.
  • The tint it leaves, probably because i’m partial to the colour red.

What i don’t love about Lakme Enrich Satin Lipstick P166:

  • The inconsistency with the formulation in the line (although that isn’t really a con to this perticular lipstick).
  • Not everyone will go crazy over the red tint it fades into.
  • The fact that , like most cream-sheens and satins, it transfers.
  • The fact that they upped their price, along with their game.
  • They are yet to have shade indicators at the bottom of the twist up. (seriously! come on Lakme!)

VERDICT? As for this particular Lakme lipstick P166, if you’re bold enough to sport it, go ahead! You will not be disappointed!  For the price, experimenting with shades this vibrant, is a good idea.

  1. I have not tried these yet. the last time I tried to check these out, I got so confused! I wanted all the colors.

I have a couple of Enrich Satin Lipsticks. Very frankly, at the price point they cater, I think they are great! Value for money.

I loved the review. By the way, I want this same color. Shade name noted. :)

    • For the price , they make this gujju VERY happy !
But maybelline does basic pinks a little better at a similar price point. The only time i look to satins is for “off” shades that other brands don’t cater to.
Do pick this one up though
      :D

And yes, the bulky packaging is finally gone! Hallelujah! Now if only they could expand this to the entire range.
