Review, Uses and Price of Nivea Creme

By Contributor: Vaidehee

Hey you guys! You know how some things are staples in your vanity? Like that Kohl pencil you keep going back to? Or the red lipstick that you’ve loved for a long time? Well, oddly enough , I scoured through the VNA Archives, and there wasn’t a review up on the classic blue tin in everybody’s vanity: The Nivea Creme. So today, I’ll be quickly reviewing this old cream, and listing some of the odd little ways that i use it. People always have doubts on how to use it, where to use it, can it be used on face, how does it work on acne prone skin, pimples, face pack, etc so today lets answer all your questions.

My Review:

Packaging : It comes in the old-fashioned blue tin pot. Now this is something that i wish they would revise, because it’s messy packaging, the closure almost always is defective and I somehow manage to spill some. It’s usually a series of unfortunate events.

Fragrance : The fragrance of the Nivea Creme been the same for as long as I can remember, and I’ve gotten so used to it that it doesn’t bother me anymore. If you’re someone with a sensitive sniffer , and the typical cold-cream scent isn’t your thing, well, tough luck!

Texture and Consistency : The one thing that everyone agrees on regarding the Nivea Cream is that it’s a little too dense, and it’s not something you would want to use on your face because it feels heavy on your skin , unless you have really dry skin. (As in, Reptilian scales -dry!)  Another issue is that it greases up really fast, and leaves a slightly oily film on the surface of your skin . As for the hydration part, it does work really well.

Top 5 Ways to Use the Nivea Creme:

I’ve gone through countless little travel size containers of this so far , and this is how I use the Nivea Creme :

1. While wearing shoes to keep away blisters:

Since i’m a heel junkie, my feet are subjected to torture almost routinely and breaking in new heels is bloody painful. So i rub some of this stuff over the sides of my feet and the back of my ankle, and because this doesn’t dry off really fast and leaves a film, it helps keep my feet from getting blisters.

2. Nivea Creme for Dry and Cracked Heels:

So i hate to admit it, but the soles of my feet get really dry , and it’s not really a pretty sight. Once in a while, i will rub some of this over the soles of my feet, put on some fuzzy socks and go to bed . In the morning, it’s all smoothed over.

3. As a Lip Balm Treatment:

My lips for some reason don’t respond to regular lip balm, and the only thing that works for me when my lips are chapped is cold cream. I love this stuff a little more than the regular ponds cold cream (which stings on chapped lips by the way!) , because it fixes my lips up over night.

4. I Use Nivea Creme To Remove Eye Makeup:

I use it to remove my eye makeup (as long as it’s not water proof) , since makeup remover wipes get expensive , they add up and i go through them like crazy . My frugal little self prefers regular facial wipes dipped in cold cream.

5. Nivea + Cream Blushes:

Although the cream isn’t something that i use as a moisturizer for my skin, i love blending in cream blushes with a teeny-tiny bit of it , since i’m guilty of being heavy handed with blush and looking like a clown is only appropriate as a costume.

      • I have oily skin and I’m using Nivea creme on my face before i sleep at night and it works really well to moisturize my skin. I don’t recommend it to be used in the morning since it doesn’t have SPF and its not a good base for your makeup. :)

  4. How I use Nive Blue as a night cream.
I “pat” it into my face and this also brings the blood into my face which is good.
You cannot use it like another cream where you smooth it on. You must PAT it in.

  5. Honestly I slap so much on during the Night such that my face is very white! I have oily skin and believe me when I say my face in the morning is not oily but baby soft! It’s best at nighttime where the skin recovers! Plus my acne is reduced I believe it also protects your skin at night. I use Nivea soft during the day and I wash my face with Noxzema and use Witch-Hazel as toner. That’s it. :)

  6. It has mineral oil. Mineral oil is “comedogenic” It will block your pores causing acne and black heads. Nivea is great for extreme dry skin.

  7. I am using it as my night cream moisturizer. And i have oily skin but so far my face use to like it. It didn’t clog my pores comparing to nivea soft.

  8. I have tried Nivea night moisturer once many years ago and found it to be very thick heavy and drying to the skn. So discontinued use immediately!

Two days ago I ran into a cashier at a store in shopping and saw how beautifully smooth and moistured her face looked! Curiously asked her what moisturer she uses, shocked to hear NIVEA came out of her mouth!! I did specifically asked her which one of the creams, but not get an answer? Busy cashing out customers, also language barrier! … therefore not a clear answer!

However, I had the small size BLUE TIN sitting on my dresser top for couple of months wondering if I should use it on my face or not??? I started using it two days ago after the cashiers incident!! And I must say it’s the most moisturized my face has ever been in years and I normally uses very high end moisturers!!!

The one thing i am concerned about is the clogging of the pores due to the mineral oil!!!

  14. Get nivea creme in the blue tin but get the one manufactured in Germany (the info is on the bottom of the tin). It’s the original formula. I am 53 yo with combination and acne-prone skin. After applying the creme (I either sleep with it or blot away after 30 min) my skin feels like I’ve had a facial. Terrific moisturizer.
