Reviews, Swatches, Shades, Price of L’Oreal Color Riche Collection Star Pure Reds Lipsticks

Before the era of selfies, autographs were THE thing. From signed photographs to souvenirs, everything had to be signed by the celebs. I still have this computer notebook I refuse to throwaway with an autograph of a sports celebrity. I have no clue who he is..all I remember is I was it was the summer of 2002 and all the girls in my school were chasing him and I HAD to be a part of it. 13years later I have got signed lipsticks! Its the new Star Collection Exclusives Pure Reds lipsticks by L’Oreal Paris Color Riche. These are 7 red lipsticks supposed to be the signature red lipsticks of the L’Oreal ambassadors who endorse them. Our desi brigade of Sonam, Aishwarya and Freida are part of it. Let’s start with the reviews and swatches to see what the fuss is all about.

L’Oréal Paris starts the new year painting 2015 RED! Presenting the the Color Riche Collection Star range. A rouge for every woman. Discover a shade of red that is as unique as you are! The range includes 7 exquisite matte shades that are chosen by 7 ionic L’Oréal Paris ambassadors

This is supposed to be the biggest L’Oreal Paris launch of 2015. And I cannot argue. Red lipsticks endorsed by L’Oreal ambassadors? I’m listening! This range has different set of stars depending on the country you live in. UK gets Julianne’s and Liya’s. US gets Eva’s and Blake’s, France gets Ines’ and Leila’s while apna India gets Sonam’s and Aishwarya’s in addition to Freida’s. Although it leads to a little confusion for those searching on google for swatches but it makes sense to rope in stars from the country people can associate to. The Indian version has 3 Indian women apart from some Korean

Chinese celebrities so I am guessing the Asian countries get the same set of stars.

The shades in this collection have quite a lot of variety. All these have red undertones as they fall under the Pure Reds category. This range has a pink, orange, brown, coral, wine, warm red, cool red. I like they have picked a colour from every colour family.

My favourite shades are Pure Garnet, Pure Rouge and Pure Scarleto currently as winters are all about deep shades. In summers my hands would definitely go towards the brighter shades like Pure Fire, Pure Amarathe and Pure Vermeil. Pure Brick is the only shade which didn’t suit me as its a mature shade. I would recommend it to office going ladies. The pigmentation of these shades is good as they are deep and go opaque in one swipe.

These are out and out matte lipsticks. The Moist Matte range is more creamy compared to Star Reds collection. But that can be because everything feels matter in winters. These are more matte than the Infallible lipsticks, sort of like the matte MAC lipsticks. Some of the shades like Sonam Kapoor’s and Freida Pinto’s can tug and pull a bit while applying so a lip balm underneath is definitely recommended.

The lasting power is amazing. These survive meals and last for 5-6 hours on average with deeper shades like Garnet, Brick, Scarleto and Rouge lasting even more.

From left to right:

1. L’Oreal Pure Vermeil:

A very different red from the usual. It has slight coral tones to it. If you don’t like true stark reds then this can be a good starter colour for you. Will suit fair to medium Indian skin tones nicely.

2. L’Oreal Pure Rouge:

My favourite from the whole range. This shade is endorsed by Freida Pinto. It has cool tones to it but I don’t see anybody who can’t pull off this shade. Beauty bloggers worldwide compare it to MAC Ruby Woo. Is it a dupe? Well for that deserves a whole new post. I will soon review it individually.

3. L’Oreal Pure Scarleto:

This one is a little less deep and more warm than Pure Rouge. This shade is endorsed by Blake Lively.

4. L’Oreal Pure Garnet:

Another favourite! I am wearing this one a lot these days. This one is totally a winter shade as its a deep burgundy wine shade. I need to compare MAC Diva and Pure Garnet side by side to see if they are actually dupes. This shade can be pulled off easily by every Indian girl. This one is endorsed by Sonam Kapoor.

5. L’Oreal Pure Amaranthe:

A bright pink with red tones. Its a very pretty and safe shade to opt for if you are intimidated by all the red shades in this range. This one is endorsed by Gong Li.

6. L’Oreal Pure Fire:

A warm orange with red tones. Its quite a nice summer shade. This one is endorsed by Li Bing Bing.

7. L’Oreal Pure Brick:

A brown based red picked by Aishwarya Rai. If your office allows only brown lipsticks then this can be your cheat red lipstick.

Initially I had complaints with the rising prices of L’Oreal lipsticks. But now that a MAC is close to 2k and a Chanel 3k, I cannot complain! At this price point, the texture and shade selection is amaze balls.

Pros of  L’Oreal Color Riche Collection Star Pure Reds Lipsticks:

  •  I love the texture. These are pure matte lipsticks which I adore.
  • They don’t feel drying on lips. But I would still recommend a lip balm underneath specially in winters.
  • The pigmentation is amazing. All the shades are rich and deep and go opaque in one swipe.
  • The lasting power is amaze balls. Rouge, Garnet, Scarleto and Brick stays for around 6-8 hours with meals while Fire, Amaranthe and Vermeil stay for aroung 4-5 hours. They all leave a rich stain behind.

Cons of  L’Oreal Color Riche Star Pure Reds Lipsticks:

  • Proper exfoliation of lips is necessary as with all long staying matte lipsticks. Try this DIY scrub recipe for quick scrubbing.
  • If you have used retro matte MAC lipsticks then you know how precise the application needs to be. These are exactly the same, need care while applying as they can tug and pull a bit. This needs to be listed as a con so the review remaims unbiased although I am a retro matte lover so this doesn’t bother me.

So is it for you? These include a red for everyone whether you dig browns, pinks, oranges, corals or just RED. The texture is matte but not drying and these last for an amazing amount of time.

After shooting the whole thing atleast twice I finally found a perfect place at my home for photography. I can’t believe how I never thought of it. I’m now thinking of permanently shifting my photo booth on our terrace..terrace!
