 Kareena Kapoor Eye Makeup Tutorial

By Contributor: Rmyah

I’ve been bitten bad… by none other than Kareena Kapoor. Our Cinema Goddess has managed to pull off such a wide variety of looks, I cannot even begin to describe. She has been my idol for years now, ever since her minimalistic look in Refugee, to the ultra glam Poo of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum, to her beautiful wedding look to the downright sultry Halkat Jawaani number.

I have been inspired by all, but the thing that caught me the most is her smoky siren look in Halkat Jawaani. So much that I had to get this look down! And thus I got down to do this smokey eye makeup tutorial inspired after her. The first one in VNA’s Celeb makeup series. Here are the steps how to achieve it:

Step 1: Start off with bare eyes and apply a base. Since this look was very neutral but with a little subtle glam, I opted to use the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze rather than going with a simple primer.

Step 2: Line your eyes with kohl, doesn’t matter if you are messy. Apply a thick line both on the upper and lower lashlines. Even line your waterline and tightline your eyes. I used the Maybelline Colossal Kajal for this.

Step 3: Smudge out the entire kohl that you applied taking care to keep it thinner on the inner half of the eye and smudging it out a lot more afar on the outer half. Kinda like a triangle starting at the inner half and the base of the triangle at the outer half.

Step 4: Once you’re happy with the smudging, apply a dark brown eye shadow all over the lid. Also on the lower lash line. Pat the eye shadow all over the smudged kohl so that the lid color transitions from dark black to a deep dark brown and then a dark brown. I applied MUA matte eye shadow in shade 19.

Step 5: Deepen the socket line (crease) with a further darker brown. You can skip this part if you feel it would be a bit much, I did it because Kareena has a very deep defined socket line and I wanted to replicate that on my not so deep eyes. I used MUA heaven and earth palette for the deepest brown shade with a slight shimmer.

Step 6: Once you are happy with the blending on the socket line, you can reapply a thick kohl line on the upper lash line, lower lash line and the waterline. Fill in your brows, since we are doing a heavy smoky eye, sparse eyebrows can be very detracting to the look. Bold brows go extremely well with a bold eye.

Step 7: Apply at least two coats of a volumizing mascara and/or apply false lashes.

Step 8: Now go compare the look with that of Kareena’s.

And tadaaa we are done with the eye makeup!

Here is how the final eye makeup looks like

Apply a healthy nude color to your cheeks, I used NYX powder blush in Natural. Contouring is very important for Kareena’s look as she has these “Ahhhmazzzing” Cheekbones. I used the same eye shadow, MUA shade 19, to attempt to create the same chiseled features, but apparently I judged it wrong ;)

Apply a nude pink/peach color to your lips, I used Colorbar VelvetMatte lipstick in Bare, topped with Revlon colorburst lip gloss in Peony. Add a Black Bindi and you’re done. Smoky eyes a-la-Kareena.
