Pooja K tweeted me asking for some suggestions for shampoos and conditioners for coloured hair. Well I have not coloured my hair (I probably never will) so I had to turn to friends and family for their suggestions. My mom, cousins and a lot of close friends have been colouring their hair for ages and these are the products that got the highest votes. I made everyone whatsapp me their lists!
1. The Body Shop Rainforest Radiance Shampoo and Conditioner for colored hair:
The best part is that the range is free from parabens, sulphates, silicones and all the scary stuff. The shampoo is mild and never dries your hair. (Price: approx Rs.550 each)
2. Matrix Biolage Color Care Shampoo & Conditioner:
I swear my matrix hair care products. I have used the products for dry hair but from what I hear its shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair is good too. It helps preserve your hair and never ever dries them. Although the shampoo is good enough in itself but use the conditioner too for added conditioning and protection. (Price: the shampoo costs Rs.200 and conditioner costs Rs.250 approx )
3. L’Oreal Professional Serie Expert Vitamino Colour Shampoo:
The bottle is pink (you can never remember these long names I bet). Its a cult favourite for protecting coloured hair. It instantly adds some bounce and controls frizz. L’Oreal Professional range is anyway very good. (Price: Rs.599)
4. L’Oreal Hair Expertise Color Protect Shampoo and Conditioner:
Okay this one is quite debatable. Of the 6 people I asked, 4 hated it (loathed is a better word), 2 absolutely loved it! So I’m not sure what to say. But the thing I like about it is that it has got these UV filters which protect your hair from the sun. Not sure if it works but give it a try if nothing works. (Price: approx 150 I guess)
Apart from the regulaar shampoos and conditioners, use a weekly hair conditioning treatment to deep condition your hair. I use Dove hair mask but for coloured hair my cousin uses this,
L’oreal Total Repair Hair Masque
Its a regular hair mask, nothing fancy but protects your hair. (Price: Rs.350)
Loreal Professional Instant Smoothening Hair Serum:
This one is a very popular serum for damaged or coloured hair. A lot of people recommend it.
Quick Tip: Avoid any home made herbal stuff like henna, amla, ritha, shikakai etc etc. They may change your hair colour!
These are the products I use: Sunsilk Keratinology Shampoo and Conditioner Review, Dove Split End Rescue Shampoo and Conditioner Review, Best Hair Care Products 2012
If you have a question then mail/tweet/facebook/comment and ask me!
I use the loreal mask and it is good
Mine is colored hair as well I am using l’oreal elvive hair colour protect shampoo n conditioner (red color bottle) ,would highly recommend to everyone …and try L’Oreal Paris Elvive ExtraOrdinary Oil UV Filter for Coloured Hair which i am going to review very soon, which is one of the best product i ever used on my colored hair…
sorry to say i used Matrix Biolage Color Care Shampoo & Conditioner long ago but didn’t work on my hair..:(
different things work for different people na. d shampoo u like many dont so it depends :)
True..I m using red one since long time almost 5 yrs nt hair fall at all ..so it depends up on ur hair which one suits u ..:):)
Matrix Biolage worked well for me :)
thats good to hear :)
I too recently got red highlights :D , I use Loreal professional’s Pink one and Sunsilk’s Keratinology for colored hair alternately. The pink one is awesome leaves me hair super soft and shiny and there is very minimal color stripping. As for masks i use mayonaise and eggs and it fares well too, and the loreal Professional Serie Expert Vitamino Colour Mask is great too (this entire range is quite good for colored hair) .
BTW even I hate that red loreal shampoo, its caused me A LOT OF HAIRFALL !! likes tons of hair falling SCARED me at first use :/
so that makes you the 5th person to say that in the last week! I’m so scared of coloring my hair..dont wanna loose d texture!
Even I was scared, I took 2 months to decide on it.
I would say Try semi – permanent (wella or L’oreal )ones – they last somewhere like 6 weeks depending upon color, and cause no or minimal damage after 3 months I have noticed very slight dryness in my hair.
I think if you maintain it with right products, and take care its worth the experience.. ;)
I hate sitting for 1 hour weekly for hair mask, but the red peeking out of my hair makes it totally worth (I know I am obsessed:D )
i know! i got feather extension in red :D
Kerastase Chroma Riche ! When I had coloured my hair, I tried L’oreal shampoos and Body Shop as well but nothing beats Kerastase. Yes it costs a bomb but saves you from frequent hair spas etc And the pretty pink packaging looks lovely ( not that you should buy it ‘cos of the packaging)
now that’s a new recommendation. Girls…..take note!
Hi Anshita,
These are some of the great products you have mentioned here. Loreal is one of my fav brand, which i preferably go for. The product which you have mentioned here are prty good.
Cheers!
I have been using Pro Naturals and works really well for my hair ;)
I use the L’Oréal professional vitamino one with the accompanying mask and I highly recommend it to everyone ! I’ve not used the red one by L’Oréal but my mom did and she said it offered absolutely no sort of color protection whatsoever and she’s extremely pleased with the pink vitamino one :) it really reduces color fade out, works well as a shampoo and makes hair soft and smooth especially when used with the accompanying mask :)
Your way of describing all in this post is actually nice, every one be capable of simply be aware of it,
Thanks a lot.
