I was planning this post from a long time but thought none would be interested. “What does this beauty blogger know of horror films?” Well quite a lot actually. Its the only genre of movies I dont ever get bored of watching EVER. So today is Friday, the 13th and if I don’t write this today I will not write this ever. I think I’ve done a Ph.D when it comes to nail biting scary fiction. My brother and I watch one horror EVERY NIGHT, beat that! I don’t know how many google searches I’ve made for the “best horror”, “top 10 horror”, “award winning non zombie horror” only to be disappointed later. Sometimes I feel like chopping their heads off who think blood shed+action = horror and thereby waste our 2hrs! I think now I’m qualified enough to make one such list, it won’t disappoint you..promise!
Before we movie ahead first let me be very clear. What is NOT scary?
- Stupid ashy white zombies with red perennial pimples all over the face.
- Stupid skeletons dancing around the tress (I’m looking at you Evil Dead)
- Man in black robes and hood carrying an axe.
- Jaadu tona and mantar-shantar (thats what every single bollywood horror is comprised of)
- Exorcism
- Rec 1 & 2 (a spanish movie shot in a documentary style. A building is quarantined with all the people inside. One by one they are effected by a strange virus which turns them into man-eaters but not like your regular zombies)
Loveeeefear it!
- Quarantine 1 & 2 (english remake of Rec. I first saw this and was so impressed that moved onto Rec)
- 28 Weeks Later: Well the mass epidemic again! But in this whole of the Britain is effected with those beats running openly in the streets.
- Dawn of the Dead (2004): again about the mass epidemic. Remake of the 70s series. Worth a watch.
- 28 Days Later: not as good as its sequel but still worth a try.
- Paranormal Activity: PA 3 was the best in the Paranormal Activity trilogy. Its the fear of unknown that keeps the movie going.
- The Woman in Black (2012): I kept hallucinating about some black figure the whole night!
- Mulberry Street (2006)
- Slither (2006)
- A Nightmare on the Elm Street (1984)
- The Shining (1980)
Worst Horror Movies: Oh I can go and on. They wasted my nights when I wanted to be scared to the core. Simply over-rated.
- Amityville Horror (2005): Once again a new house, new story
- Friday, the 13 (2009): Ironic!
- The Ring (2002)
- The Pact (2012)
- Saw series
- Nigh of the Dead (2006)
- Silence of the Lamb (1991): It was more of psycho thriller but it is listed under most “top 10” horrors. If you are looking to be scared then don’t watch otherwise it’s a good movie.
- The Crazies (2010)
- Resident Evil
- Halloween (2007)
- Scream (2011)
- Alien (1979)
- The Last Exorcism (2010)
- The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
- The Rite (2011)
- The Omen (2006)
- Orphan (2009)
- Shutter series
